Because it releases endorphins from the brain, which in turn, make you feel good. Like whenever you stub your toe and you get that dizzy floaty feeling after the pain starts to subside? That's the feeling I go for when I SI. The dizzy, floaty feeling.

Yup!! That's the feeling I get addicted too for sure. I feel drunk, buzzed and the tension/knots in my stomach just go away.

My hubby saw me have one of my little 'breakdowns' I was crying, hyperventilating....totally going nutso..so I said to him 'you see how I am right now??!! Well the cutting makes it all go away!! I was trying to explain it to him for a LONG time and I think he kinda clued in a bit after that.

Oh yeah, the pain is a whole different story, lol. I'm always hurting myself all day everyday, one thing I do is pick the skin out from under my nails till it bleeds, and that hurts for a long time..I say its like a steady IV drip of pain.

yeah i use to love the burning... the lighters the cigarette's on my skin heating hot metal...

burning was one of my fav's.....

it release endorphins makes us no longer feel numb and out of control we decide where we decide for how long we decide when enough is enough.. it makes sense to love the feeling of the contorl and the comming back from emosional numbness..

big hugs

They are all right but to add on the pain part, ever notice how a baby doesn't cry til you gasp or you don't realize you have hurt yourself? Well when you are aware of what is happening and odviously you are not panicked cause you want it, its like the nerves don't freak out and rush to the part to tell you. Instead everything switches straight to protect and its like a shot of adrenaline medicine. It kicks in to he lp you survive.

It might sound crazy, but for me it means that there's a physical pain & blood that needs to be cleaned up & taken care of, so I don't have to feel the emotional pain. It started in 7th grade and I hadn't done it for about 5 yrs, but with everything that is going on right now there have been times lately when I felt like I HAD to cut.
