im going to talk to my sons teachers today (he is 6) about the distractions hes having at home due to my unstable bipolar. its our choice to involve them, we are very open about most of my probs but the one im not sure whether to talk /let them know about is that im a self harmer. im not sure how that would go down??

any feedback would be welcomed - should i tell them everything?

I don't think you should tell them that part of it. They might take it the wrong way and find you a danger to your little boy. You don't want to get authorities or anything else in your life. Bipolar for some is a recognizable controllable disease, but if they knew about the cutting....I just don't know. If it was me though, I would leave that part out of it.

You might want to mention that you have some health issues. No more than that. Do not mention the cutting. If this is causing problems with your son then you may want to think about getting some kind of help from your doc and getting a therapist to help with the injuring.

Just my two cents.

Risperdal 1.5mg
Trazadon 100mg
Klonapin 1mg
Lexapro 20mg
Wellbutrin 150mg

I agree with slamm and princess. Definitely not mention the cutting. Get help from your doctor and a therapist would be a plus. I myself would not mention the cutting or self harming but that's just me. I think it would cause them to think that you would be a danger to your son, like slamm said.

Tell them only what you feel comfortable telling them and what you think is absolutely necessary for them to know. Sometimes the members of our society that we think should be the most understanding or be the most open-minded (teachers, doctors, ect) are actually the most condescending. Only you can judge for sure what is ok and what is not ok to disclose.

If it were me, I would NOT tell them about the SI. I would go into the meeting wearing a long-sleeve shirt. But again, this is entirely your decision. You may be more comfortable with yourself than I am. Whatever you decide to do, good luck to you and I hope it all works out Smile
