I am 13. I have a 46 degree curve of my spine at my lower back. I have no other symptoms except lower back pain but only occasionally. My doctor is considering surgery, and right now, I am facing a likely surgery to straighten my back with a metal rod. I am SO scared. Please help!

Hello Mylea, I don't know where you are located but I work for a Dr in Palm Harbor, FL who is educated by the Clear Institute. Her name is Dr. Jacqueline Smith and we have sisters with scoliosis, 13 and 15 years old, here in our clinic. It is possible to reduce your scoliosis curve without surgery or braces. Take heart and be encouraged- there are alternatives for you, look on the Clear Institute website to find a doctor in your area. Best wishes brave one!

hi

i think that maybe you should consider hydrotherapy. It strngthens your inner core muscles which then in turn help to reduce the curve(hopefully). I'm 15 and i was only just diagnosed. I've started doing hydrotherapy and you can feel it working. If you only have lower back pain occassionally i think you should look into other treatments not surgery. If it hurt in lots of places at once then you should get the surgery.

hope this helps... good luck
