My friend who has scleroderma was just told by her doctor that she will probably need to start dialysis. Her kidneys are not working as they should due to this disease. He told her that sometimes they can treat this with high blood pressure medicine but since her pressure is very low, they can't use it. So, he told her she will need to start dialysis. Are there any other alternatives that anyone knows of?

Thanks.

Denise

Denise: I have scleroderma, was diagnosed ten years ago. I am sorry for your friend. Unfortunately, I don't know about anything else for her kidneys. I have heard of someone who went to Duke University and they used stem cells on him. Maybe you can contact Duke and see if they know of an alternative treatment. It's worth a shot. You can send me a message if you want to talk. Take care of yourself and your friend.

Cathy
