Questions:

A bit ago my sciatica began hurting me. I was sitting on my couch legs elevated (as usual) and the left buttock down the side of my leg to foot began hurting. I changed positions, I turned upon my right hip and side, really an award sitting position, though it didn't bother me. This eased it somewhat.

Why did it ease?

As I was rubbing pain lotion on my buttock, hip and down the outside of my thigh, I noticed certain areas I rubbed caused my ankle and foot to have a sharper pain, then when I stopped the sharper pain also stopped.

Why did touching one spot cause another spot to hurt worse?

The pain didn't travel,it bypassed the rest of my leg and went straight to my foot area.

I know Ray more than likely cantell me what is going on and I would like to hear if this happens to anyone else.

Hugs

Hi BITS

I am sorry you are in pain again.

Your pain is from the L4-L5/S1 where you have a pinched nerve. Look it up on the articles - picture.

Your rubbing has caused the pinched nerve to pull some and is irritating the nerve which can not move normally because it is pinched.

You need to ice the lower back. (( 15 minutes on / 2 hours off ))

You need to start doing stretches to reduce the problem and perhaps even to push the problem significance back to lower. It is possible to even cure the problem in some instances by using proper stretches. The stretches you need are - piraforma syndrom, iliotibial band , iliopsoas, and McKenzie technique. They are all on the internet - look them up. You might also consider getting some first hand guidance from going to physical therapy - this is so important.

You need to understand that this is reflected pain from the pinched nerve. Have you had an MRI of the lumbar yet?

This problem of the foot and ankle has been going on for a while now - what is your doctor doing about it. Have you had a shot of cortisone to the butt? Are you taking any antiinflamatories? I am sure you are taking pain meds - keep them down as much as possible - you are masking the real problem.

I really think that a big strong vibrator would help you a lot. It needs two prongs so it can deliver the energy to both sides of the spine at the same time, without touching the spine. Look at the thread in sciatica > general > the vibrator... Before trying it contact me for special instructions how to apply the vibrator - a new technique. You may PM me. Although I am having some difficulty with this technique - it would reduce your problems intensity considerably.

Hope you will be feeling better real soon.

Raoul
