"I have just been diagnosed as bipolar." (terranical)

MDJunction to me

Sylvia4648"I have suffered from depression most of my life, but had some long, non-depressed times. The last 16 years have been an on-going, constantly worsening nightmare for me medically, socially and with my family. 11/2008 to the present has been the worst time in my life, and new things just keep piling up. During that time I’ve gone from being mostly homebound to being totally homebound due to the errors of about 2 dozen doctors who overmedicated me so badly that I came home w/ 4 conditions I didn’t go in with. I spent months wanting to die, and finding MDJ may well have saved my life. It’s one of the worst feelings to know that nobody on earth needs you for anything; but now that I’ve been a group leader for awhile, there are people here who need me. Thanks MDJ." (Sylvia4648)

i am going to the pdoc tomorrow and I still don't know what to say. Part of me wants off the geodon and part wants to stay on. On one hand, you have the part that wants to get off the med and try to get one with less side effects and works better. The other hand doesn't want to go through all the withdrawal and the new adjustment period.

I am having to also adjust to my girlfriend going away for a month. I Lao have to deal with a young puppy that isn't potty trained yet either. All this stress leads me to think no change yet, but I know that things aren't working right now.

I just wish I knew what to do, cause I am drawing a blank.

I felt the same way about Abilify...every day I change my mind a few times, thinking the negative feelings will go away with time but it's been almost 2 months now and not getting better...

What other anti-psychotics have you tried? I loved Seroquel (and intend to get back on it) and it helped me the first night I took it because I hadn't slept in days and the docs at the hospital even gave me a shot of olanzapine that didn't knock me out so Seroquel was a life saver for me. It can be pretty sedating though, so unless you need some level of sedation it might not be a good thing.

Training a puppy is tough. We went through that before, had to keep him in a box/ kennel while we were away and overnight cause they say they will not go in their box if they sleep there so...it worked though!

If you are having doubts about Geodon, it probably is not right for you. I know it's a pain to try to find the right med but when you do you will be glad you didn't settle on something that wasn't ideal. I don't know WHY I switched from Seroquel...I'd rather keep an eye on my blood sugar and stuff than be on something that makes me miserable so bye bye Abilify! Abilify might work for people who need to be perked up rather than sedated but for me it's too over-stimulating. Wellbutrin is the same way so I am switching back to Zoloft too.

Good luck finding the right thing for you!

Well, I didn't come off the geodon. I increased the xanax and the lamictal. I just hope it was the right call. And yes I have tried seroquel, and it had no affect on me. It was like taking a sugar pill.

Wow it's hard for me to imagine Seroquel not having an effect on someone! I never tried Geodon. I've been on Zyprexa, Risperdal, Haldol and now Abilify and I don't like any of those 4...I am afraid to try something new again when Seroquel worked but now they got me worried I will wind up with diabetes if I take Seroquel Sad I guess I'll have to keep an eye on my glucose levels...

Because of some of the meds, I have to watch my thyroid. Guess every med has some sort of side effect.
