My name is Michael and I have been diagnosed with right wrist and hand causalgia after a radial nerve injury. I had surgery on 1/10/2012 to remove a 3 mm neuroma and nerve reconstruction but the pain has not gotten better. Has anyone fully recovered from CRPS 2? I am also a leukemia and bone marrow transplant survivor and have chronic GVHD.

Hi Michael,

Welcome, sorry you have this awful disease it is tough. Glad you are here with us and hope we can help you, make the journey easier.

There is always hope for remission especially if treated with physio and pain meds/alternative therapies etc. early & agressively in the first three months is best.Up to 6 months still some chance of remission if treated after 7 months not as likely.New meds and alternative options are coming up with new things all the time, we hope for the cure to be discovered right around the corner.

Take care,

scorpioj

I'm an Advocate

Hi Michael -

I'm so sorry to hear about your CRPS2, on top of chronic GVHD (for those who are unfamiliar, this is "graft vs. host disease" which sometimes occurs after a bone marrow transplant where the transplanted material attacks the person's body).

The good news is that you're still well within the timeframe that you could achieve a cure. Are you seeing a pain management physician? If not, I recommend you waste no time in finding one who understands CRPS.

I have no first-hand knowledge of GVHD, but I know that it's due to an immune response, which has also been implicated in the etiology of CRPS. This could complicate things, but also may have no effect, since the reasons are so different between the two diseases. I assume you're under the care of a physician familiar with GVHD, since there are so many treatment options.

I suffered for 14 years with CRPS2, then spontaneously went into remission 2.5 years ago, so don't stop hoping and believing that you can conquer this!

Thanks for the optimism. I am very frustrated. I have been aggressively treating it by the Shepherd Center in Atlanta. So far the treatment feels like its putting a band aid on a severed artery. I am looking forward to the support.
