My friend and I are doing a report on RMSF. While we were researching we came up with a great question for us to answer, "Are there any success stories of people who had RMSF or live a long time with it?" We decided that it would be a good idea to join a group and ask around. Is it okay if we ask around on this website? Thanks!

Hello, I have rmsf, I was in the hospital for 8 days, then went to my parents for a week to finish recuperarating. I was a total mess, extreme joint/muscle pain, vertigo, vomitinf, fever/chills. Now I am very weak and have numbness/tingling in my hands. I must have gotten bite around april 20th, and it took a couple days for the symptoms to get really bad. I am 38 yo, and have 3 young boys, ages 6, 4 and 1 year.

Looking for more stories and how people recuperate, and just someone to talk about this, as it is not a common thing! Thanks, marzo

My boyfriend has/had or whatever. This is a VERY touchy subject for me. Back in May of 2006 Raven was bit by 5 ticks, 2 of which re-acted. Both swelled and were red and hot. One was the size of a quarter, the other the size of a softball. The doctor at the time said nothing was wrong and gave him some Keflex. Less than one month later he developed spots that started around his ankles and worked up his legs also, around his upper arms moving in towards his chest, and on his scalp. We went back to the ER where the Dr. there did a test for RMSF. This was on June 30th. On July 7th, 2006 Raven and I went shopping. He looked at me and said he didn't feel well. I took him home and went back out to shop. When I returned home 5 hrs later, he was in terrible condition. Fever, pain, you name it. I took him to the ER where they hospitalized him. He was in for 14 days. The first week he was fighting to even live. I sat by his side the entire time. After he started getting better they starte physical therapy w/ him seeing as how he could no longer do anything for himself. After a week of PT they kicked him out since we had no insurance. Now, here we are May of 2008. Raven applied for disability in July 2006. He was denied 3 times. He can't walk w/o the aid of a cane. Or be out w/o a wheelchair. He is in constant excruciating pain.he has to shower w/a shower chair. He can not hold himself up w/ his own leg power. He'll fall down w/o his cane. The only med that even helped w/ pain was dilated and that was because it made him just not care. And w/o insurance he can't get it. So now the only thing that helps is marijuana. He must now wait another year to go for a hearing before a judge to hopefully get disability. He was 24 when he go RMSF. He did hard labor his whole life, growing up on a farm doing that work, then doing construction, mechanic, and being a tree cutter (climbing the trees and cutting them down). He also has 2 small kids. Now he sits at home all day in pain if iam not able to buy the only "med" that helps him. RMSF has ruined the past 2 years of our lives. I would not wish this on my worst enemy.

I pray to God that you and your family don't have to go through what Raven and I have gone through. Do you still have the pain? Are you able to move around ok?
