I know this is off topic, that's why I put it in Lounge.

My Dog Sheba has not been eating. At first she ate just a little each time we fed her. Now she hasn't eaten in 1.5 days.

She has been so scared of the fireworks, and the thunder and lightning. But that was days ago. Then she had the Vet appt. To be accurate her anal glad was emptied, and a physical was given on her privates.

Just today she went running after a bunny. around 3 houses that have the same connected back yard with no fences. She still looks forward to walks and can hardly wait to go. For this I don't think she is sick.

I just brought her to the vet and it's a bill I had to cheat on. I payed 1/2 cash so my husband wouldn't see the whole amount.

I wonder if she is just getting picky.

Any advice welcome.

Try giving her a bite of peanut butter. My dogs love it.

It is the only thing Biff will take his meds with. He takes 8 pills daily. So very important to have something he gobbles down.

Another thing is a piece of cheese. I give them cheese daily since vet recommended it as great source of calcium.

If Sheba doesn't care for either just think of something she loves and try it.

I always worry if it is hard for mr to get Biff to eat peanut butter more than his regular food.

I wouldn't be too concerned as long as it doesn't go past a few days and she is not displaying sickness.

Hugs to you and Sheba

Or, if something is bothering her stomach, you could try something really bland. When they're feeling sick, my dogs will often take a little boiled chicken, some cottage cheese, or plain (cooked) white rice. Has she been eating grass? That's often a sign of upset doggie tummies.

But I agree with bits that I wouldn't worry much at a day and a half of not eating if she isn't displaying sickness.

Yes, she has been wanting to eat grass. I would tease and say she's in costume doing her Cow impression tehe. I gave her the prev acid that I had from Gizmo. She takes pills real well and after it she was chewing on a rawhide chew. In the morning I'll try her dog food again, I'll moisten it.

They make gravy you can pour over dry food to make them eat. When my hubby leaves my girl goes on a hunger strike so I have to poor some on her food. The vet also suggest some bland wet food or a bowl of rice with chicken broth. Good luck

You might also try giving her some yogurt or pick up a tube of Probios- it will increase the healthy gut bacteria for her as well as give her some added nutrients.

My Maremmas eat hay, not because they are sick, but because the livestock they guard eat it. I guess they think its the polite thing to do. Tongue

My vet suggests vegetable oil drizzled over the bowl of food. They love it. I don't do it all the time. The vet said it is great for their coat. There are days that my dogs don't eat.

Thanks for the advice. I hate to spoil her if it's she is just being picky. I did give her pep acid last night. after her night walk she was showing she was hungry. She ate a few nibbles of her food that my younger son got out. I let you know how she does.

Thanks again.

How old is she? Do you think maybe her teeth are bothering her?

Thank you all so much. She ate today. 1/3 cup at 1pm It could be a sick tummy. whew!

Thanks Karen, I don't think so. we had them cleaned when we first got her 1 yr ago. because they needed it. The Vet is keeping a eye on them, and will clean them again this fall.

I had a beagle, Sam. We adopted him later in life 9. at 15 he died of a bad heart valve and vet said his bad teeth didn't help. Bacteria from the teeth was easily taken into his heart. I guess I learned the hard way. My older son loved Sam. We tried medication, but he went to the highest amount quickly, and we decided to euthanize him. I was working then, and my younger son was the only one home at times. I didn't want something to happen when he was home with Sam.
