I'm in an arthritis forum on Ravelry. One of the people there mentioned that she finds Portugese knitting much easier with arthritis.

I had never heard of Portugese knitting! But I found a video on YouTube, watched, and tried it. It was pretty easy to pick up, although as a beginner my tension is bad. But the real benefit is that there's much less hand motion than either English (my usual knitting style) or Continental (which I can do but am not really good at). The most movement is with your left thumb.

I plan to work on it to get my tension better. I don't know if I'll switch, but I'm glad to have another option to help me keep knitting.

Good luck!Smile

I also love to knit, quilt, make jewlery. Like you finding it harder and harder to knit unless it is on large needles with bulky yarn. Will check out this method to see if it helps. I did order some Tunision needles which is like a mixture of knitting and crochet. Still trying to find a way to finish my hand quilted queen size quilt. This has become impossible to do. So badly want to finish my work. Can only quilt by maching for short periods as my fingers cramp. Free motion quilting is harder because of the pressure on the fingers to guide the material through. Refuse to give up so much that I love. Will keep looking for ways to make it work until there is nothing else. Keep me updated on the ways that make it eaiser for you.
