MDJunction to me

2steveb" In life we all have trials and tribulations to endure weather it be physical, mental or social. For me personally when i encountered MDJunction i was astounded. Since i joined MDJunction to me it has been a god send and a life saver. I have met and been able to converse freely with so many people in the same situation as myself, (that alone is a big help, to know your not alone) to be able to discuss and get good advice from a braud section of people. One of lifes hardest things is to discuss personal issues with friends/family and yet the mdj family is non judgmental and you will be made totally welcome to talk through any issue thats on your mind. There are forums for every known issue to mankind, to me MDJ.com has become my family extension, id be lost without these good people and the extremely good guide lines that group leaders help us all with to keep threads topical and friendly." I'm new to this group - I've had lupus (sle) and rheumatoid arth for decades. Just read someones post regarding MTX - is that methotrexate? Dr. is talking about that as a pain relief option but it takes 6 months to become fully operational? I refuse to take prednisone - side effects are horrible for me. I currently take vicodin and tramadol for pain - but it still doesn't take it away completely.

Thanks and I look forward to getting to know you!

Tara

Hi Miswhiskers/Tara.. thanks for joining us! We're glad to have you. Not glad that you're sick obviously, but glad you found us. The more we share with each other, the more we learn and the better able we're able to get appropriate treatment.

Yes mtx is methotrexate. It usually takes I believe, on average, 3-4 months for you to feel a difference, and that may be after some doseage increase. Pain killers will take away some of the pain but not all of it, because they aren't addressing the real issue which is the joint damage. If you slow or stop the joint damage ( swelling, etc..) then you have better chances of less pain.

So you've had this for decades and you're just starting to get treated? Wow, you must have been suffering for a really long time no. I hope that you have a good rheumatologist!

I think you'll like it here... a lot of information, inspiration, and funny people too. Its a great bunch of people. I know you'll be hearing from more of them as the day goes on Smile

Here's to hoping relief is in sight for you....

I had to laugh at Karen's reply..."a lot of information, inspiration....." she forgot to insert "inflammation" in that sentence! : )

Welcome to the group Tara. This group is slowly bringing my spirits up and making me not feel like I am 'imagining' all this stuff that is going on in my life with my body. : )

Hi Tara welcome. Well I'm glad just painkillers worked for you as long as they did. I'd never get out of bed if all I had was my Vic. I have to add it to the morning pain and meds or it becomes all day pain. I started getting a couple good days from the MTX in just a few weeks this go round with it but I was also quickly high dosed. No weaning up this time. Glad you found us. This is such a great group of people.

hugs
