MDJunction to me

tomboykimi"What MD Junction means to me is a place where i can feel like im not alone. As someone with something as rare as hydrocephalus, it feels like im the only one in the world with it. When i came to MD, its like everyone has it. It doesnt feel like im alone. And that people need to hold up a sign to say what i have, because people know. And they understand. I can get questions answered from people who have been through it rather than from doctors or people who only can tell you from a physical standpoint. THat is what MD junction means to me." W00t It occurred to me this evening in my 4th hot shower of the day that we are fighting perhaps the toughest battles of our lives. What little control we have is not what you could call positive. Soooooo, I was wondering if there is anyone out there who would like to join me in an effort to Take Back Our Lives. Humor is said to be the best medicine...lord knows regular medicine falls abysmally short. How about if we make our own? I am sure that everyone has had those little embarrassing moments that we would normally like to hide or forget. But what if we took them and presented them for all to see, warts and all, to unveil the hidden humor, to remove from those moments the power to hurt and abuse us?

Let me give you an example. Two of my friends went to Chicago last week, I was the taxi to take them to the airport in Missoula and pick them up when they got back. They carefully printed out a sheet giving me the flight numbers and times of departure and arrival, and thanked me for helping (lest I forget that they appreciated the favor.) They left on Thursday and told me what day to pick them up. Piece of cake, right? WRONG. Along about Saturday, I had forgotten what day they were coming back. I knew our mutual friend Laura was taking care of their cats, so I could just call her. Problem was, I didn't know (or remember) Laura's last name. OK, they went to Chicago to a conference that included Stargate Atlantis actors. Name of the conference? Not a clue. Their hotel began with O'Hare...like every other hotel in a 50 mile radius of the airport. Not to be vanquished, I reasoned that Sandy needed to return to work on Monday, so they would come in on Sunday. So, overly proud of myself, I went to the Missoula International Airport (about the size of a baggage claim area at the airport in Las Vegas...but that is a story for another time) with my cane and oxygen in tow. I waited for the flight, and watched a bunch of people go thru the only door allowing you out of the arrival area. I didn't see them. Had I forgotten what they looked like in the past 4 days? Three hours later, I went up to the airline counter and asked about flight 5889. Seems the pilot and cabin staff had left the terminal over two hours ago.

Not to worry. I went back the next day, wearing the same clothes (I mean, I had only worn them a few hours the day before) and went and sat at the same place across from the guard, and waited, and waited and waited. While I was there, a couple of conspicuously armed guards sauntered by where I sat. I hoped that this was the right day, because I figured I would get strip searched if I showed up for a third day. Needless to say, they arrived and all turned out well. Who says we don't lead action-packed lives?

Anyone else out there have a tidbit to share?

That was a wonderful story to read! I laughed and laughed. My best friend lives in Bozeman and the airport is Belgrade was at one time the smallest I had ever seen, until I flew into Jacksonville, NC! lol

You would have to see the Jacksonville, NC airport to truly appreciate what I am saying.

I could share some of my whacky dreams with you all, but you woudln't know the characters in them. Awhile back I decided to write down my dreams when I awoke...just briefly so I wouldn't forget them, because they were so funny.

Meanwhile, I shall try to remember and think of any humorous incidents that come to mind. The one that still makes me laugh is when i first started on the prednisone and methotrexate. I would turn on the water in the kitchen and forget about it.....only to find that the water was also still running from the bathroom sink where I had brushed my teeth earlier. The best was when I decided I was going to take a bubble bath, forgot about it...and came into the bathroom to overflowing bubbles everywhere. Thank goodness for that little drain thing that doesn't allow the water to overflow everywhere. needless to say i was out of hot water for hours! : )

Lynnea.....Keep a writing tablet on the kitchen counter to jot

notes down.....especially regarding PILLS you have taken, and items

to buy at grocery/drug store. I also keep my phone/address book

nearby. When we are at our worst.....the memory is taking a dump.

Cherish yourself,

Kath

Naomi,

I have just had a wonderful laugh. I haven't left all the water on (YET), but I have put milk in the dishwasher and dirty dishes in the fridge. Still haven;t figured out the other half of why I threw away a new pair of socks, though.

Lynnea, I missed this post and oh my..lol... you probably were lucky you weren't pulled in for questioning on the second day. Same clothes... I can see them noticing that and rushing to check tapes to see if you even left the day before. I hope your friends know how lucky they are to have you.

I've told it here before but last year I absentmindedly scrubbed all the skin off my elbows with a foot stone in the shower thinking they were my feet. Took weeks to heal but hey they're still soft.

I caught myself during a really bad brainfog loading the washer from the laundry room garbage can. Broke down and cried that day. Glad I can laugh about it all today. Just hope it never gets that bad again.
