It was nowhere near a pleasant experience but not horrible pain i couldn't handle. Was there 8 hours. First 2 was just waiting and getting IV. Then they came and got me and there was a nurse for meds, and ultrasound specialist, and the doctor. Ultrasound was first to find best spot. She said liver looked great and healthy. That was good to hear. Then doc numbed just under right boob and went in between ribs. Numbing burned and rest was just alot of pressure and a loud wet sucking sound. Then he did another one about 2 inches below first one. The whole thing with the ultrasound took about 2 minutes. As soon as he took the 2nd one the pain hit and it got pretty uncomfortable all the way to the belly button to breathe or move so nurse put painkiller in IV which also helped immensley with the muscle and joint pain. Then back to room to lay flat for 6 hrs. No getting up even for bathroom. Yeah, okay. That lasted 2 hrs and i was up and in the bathroom. No bedpan for me. there was a lady and her family right next to me. Don't think so. Got home around 4 and slept till this morning and ab pain is gone. get results tuesday and if all clear on liver then on to muscle biopsy.

Hi gettingold...

Sorry to hear that you had to have the biopsy, I was glad you were able to give me some insight though...because I may have to have one done also....I hope you are resting comfortably now.....testing is one thing....more pain is another....it probably left you exhausted....The only biopsy I have ever had was at the gyn office...and I didnt realize what I was getting into...I arrived not knowing I was going to have it done...and then, because I knew nothing about it, but was worried to delay it, said okay, and let the doc..do the biopsy without any meds!...big big mistake..after the doc...got her first speciman, she asked ..can I do it once more to get more a speciman????...I said, absolutely not....I wasn't going to go through that type of pain again......

Well, I hope you have the day off and can get some rest and get better....

Hugs...

Donna, I'm sorry that you had to go through that, but at least it's done now. I've heard that it's quite a painful thing to have done, but them saying that it looked nice and healthy is a good sign. They don't usually say things like that unless they feel "free" to do so. Maybe its an encouraging sign! I'll be keeping you in my thoughts.

Like cella said, get some rest and try to recuperate. Those things take a terrible toll on your already frail body.

Yes Cella, knowledge is power. i had myself worked up sick and then found some online groups that walked you thru it and it didn't sound so bad so i wasn't as nervous as i thought. Are you having med problems causing liver issues too?

Today I am trying to ignore the fatigue and hope to start opening my pool. I have been sleeping everyday and it's getting old. I can't even enjoy reading the last few months.

Have a good day. Hugs

I'm happy you had it and it wasn't too bad. I had one too at 12, don't remember much but some pain. Now you will have some certainty about something, and that is always a good thing amongst so much uncertainty, right? fingers crossed that liver is beautiful pink and healthy :*

Thanks all. I'm still nervous about the results but dealing better then I was the last couple weeks.

Kathy, they suspect either Autoimmune Hepatits or Polymyositis. The liver enzymes I have raised can be either but the CPK enzyme cannot be the liver. They started with the liver so that if it's ruled out they can get me back on meds for the RA and whatever the hell else I have while they are working on figuring out what is causing them all to saty high. Cpk can actually cause kidney problems if levels stay raised so I'm sure they'll figure something out. If there is a liver problem then there is something else also with the CPK. Who knows. All I know is I feel like crap and it is the same crap i have been telling PCP about for years just alot worse now. I do wonder though if my low blood pressure is related to what's going on with the enzymes. it's been low for a few months, same time the enzymes continued to rise and quit coming down. yesterday the first one they did was 91/49 and they changed thruout the day but never went normal. When I left i was 96/61. i don't know much about blood pressure but I wish a doc would explain to me why I went low and does it cause severe fatigue.

yes, anything will be better then liver problems and the issues of meds and treating anything else. I managed to get the pool filter put together, lots of screws, hard on the hands, hooked it up to the pool, shoved the hose under the cover. Cheating this year cuz son is house sittin til next week and hasn't been around much to help get cover off. Anyway, go out last night to shut water off and water is coming out every hose and screws in the filter, soaking the backyard. That's just me and lack of strentgth. can't believe how bad my lack of strength is. So the rest has to wait until son comes around. just another "can no longer do myself" item added to my list.
