I have now been on prednisone for 4mths along with plaquenil & now added sulfasalazine to the mix.I was wondering when will I start tapering off .

I started at 10mg then went down to 7 1/2 for couple weeks but pain came back with a vengeance so last week he upped it to 15mg.....I really don't like taking it but I know that it is helping the swelling & pain...I am just a bit concerned about long term effects...

Is there a maximum that you can take or is it just up to the doc & how you are doing on it???

I do have to say that I am feeling a lot better so guess the Plaquenil is finally kicking in...

I have no problems sleeping thanks to Elavil !!! I am having problems with weight gain as I can't seem to stop eating.....LOL Hope everyone has a great pain free week Laughing

Hugs

Libyana, I have just been on 10mg for 2 months... I know the feeling of wanting to be off it, me too, but I am scared of what if the mtx isn't working and going back to that pain and swelling.. I know the prednisone helps. I know what you mean about the eating and weight gain... I gained 5 pounds, I am suppose to be losing weight not gaining it, my daughters wedding is in Oct.

Is the Plaquenil kicking in? Or is it because your on 15 mg of Prednisone?? How can you tell which one is helping you. Is the only way to tell is by taking less Prednisone??

I do 10mg every other day. At least for a month or so. Then have to stop because of stomach issues, then return when pain gets too bad again.

I don't gained much weight on it and have always lost it during the periods I am off it. I imagine because I take it sparactically is why weight is not an issue.

Anything under 10mg is useless for me.

In my case I figure I will be using pred, off and on, the rest of my life.

I never know how it is going to affect my mood. Aometimes, I get weepy and blue. Sometimes I am hateful and mean. Sometimes I am fine.

The one thing it always does is make me more energetic and causes insomnia. I use sleeping aids such as muscle relaxers or Lunesta or Lorzapam. I also use Lorzapam during the day IF I feel jittery from pred.

It really helps to be able to have a good night's sleep, especially, when our bodies fight so hard.

Somewhere there has got to be rest and I have fallen asleep, too many times, from pure exhaustion. I am thankful for the sleep aids I have if needed.

Hope all have beauiful moments friends.

Hugs
