Dat gum it.

I checked out Ked's shoes for the ones I used to like. The zipper ones are not them. The solid white canvas tie ones were going to be my choice till I read reviews of discomfort.

Oh well...

I usually look for shoes that are backless with or without straps on the back....

I like the Clark's or Naturalizers, there are more brands that I like but because I am having brain fog right now, I can't remember them..lol..

I do have some some walking shoes, New Balance seem to give me the comfort I need...

Since RA hit, I seldom wear shoes that have backs because my feet seem to swell and the bone deformities seem to hurt more in an enclosed shoe...

Good luck on your search...

Bone deformities? I just had reconstructive surgery on my left foot and they carved the heel bone to smooth it out. Not even then did anyone say anything about RA. Good Grief how much does a person need to be cut on to get the right diagnosis.

Merrell's are like walking on air. Love them! They come in zip ups, sandals, all kinds.

Kjv1956,

It is possible that it was not caused by RA or it wasn't possible to tell what caused them. I have bumps on my feet that I've had for over 10 years and I didn't have RA then.

I hope you have recovered from that surgery. It sounds painful. Blink

I've also had Clarks and like them. Other brands that I've tried and liked: Lands End All Weather shoes & clogs (I think they have more than just the suede ones now), Merrill (the style with the two elastic gussets), Dr. Sholl's (from Walmart), Sketchers, and a very, very very old pair of Nikes. I'm still unpacking from moving my pre-divorce belongings out of storage, and have found three large boxes of my shoes (what was I thinking??!?!?). All are only half-worn, if that, and some don't look like they've ever been out of the box! So I'm finding all sorts of "new" shoes that I didn't wear much before RA, that now are wonderful.

My mom asked me recently (upon looking at my closet of shoes) why I had so many. I'm really not a shoe kinda girl. I think what happened was that a lot were in my storage locker, and I had a lot with me when I was living at my parents' house. I didn't wait until a pair wore out to get another pair, because when you are in a wheelchair for two and a half years, you just don't wear shoes out!!!!

My only dress shoes are a pair of black Ann Klein kitten heels that I bought to celebrate my recovery from the first knee replacement. They are the only ones I can manage for church or dress up. They are very comfortable but don't go with everything (i.e. I wore them with a flowered white sundress for Easter - not very fashion-forward).

I'll join kjv in singing the praises of Merrill shoes. I've had two pair of them for almost ten years and two other pair for about 5 years. High quality, extraordinary comfort, excellent support. hm reminds me I need to order a new pair of sandals. Very good service and delivery, etc. from web site, btw.

I am not sure anymore what is from RA and what is not. So much seems to overlap so I don't know what came first. It is all very confusing to me. I know the RA has been active since 2009. It was masked by everything else so did not get the Dx until this year.

Kjv,

You are right, everything overlaps and it may be impossible to know which ailment is responsible, or is it a combination thing. The few things that I've had for many years, I can say did not start because of RA, but in the last 5 years, who knows.

I know this sounds crazy but when i was still working my feet were most comfortable in hiking boots. Now i switch around - mostly crocs, new balance, and thick fuzzy slippers.
