I'm new to this group. I didn't know one existed. I am regularly on the FM site and have wondered if FM and Rhab. are related in some way. My first bad case of Rhab. was in 2000 when I got the flu and was hospitalized. I was also going through a mental trauma, which I believe was a key part in why it was so severe. My doctor told me it's very rare to have it and the ICU thought I was having a heart attack because of the muscle output (supposed to be in the hundreds...mine was in the thousands). Since then, I've had two more instances of Rhab. when I've had a bad cold or been extremely tired (FM does that!). When I had the first case (2000), I couldn't move and it took weeks for me to even walk with help. I couldn't feel the top layers of my skin. This happened recently when I had a bad cold/sinus infection. I couldn't feel the surface layer of my skin and stood in the shower wondering if I was burning myself with hot water, or freezing myself with cold water.....so weird. Whenever I read about Rhab., the literature states that it usually only happens to victims of car crashes or other extreme body trauma. I've not experienced either, so I don't understand. Anyone who can explain this condition and why it comes and goes would be greatly appreciated.

Dani
