I have posterior cataracts and I have heard that with RP oura are posterior and if we have surgery there is a chance of REPEAT surgery every 6 months PLUS a chance we can get a de-teached retina ? 1 THING I have learned is to listen and get advice from this group REAL people dealing and living with RP rather than DR's who read LOL So I am asking you to share your experience so I can make choice based on what i learn here. I KNOW EVERYBODY is different but I would feel better making a choice based on my peers who have expierenced it FIRST hand. Thank You I look forward to hearing from you : )

Postcapsular catract surgery in RP is safe now a days with laser Phaco. For this catract should not be full grown but it shoud be operatable. It should be done with gaurded prognosis and by expert sr catract surgeon. If your optholmologist advice you to do it , then do not keep any fear in your mind.(he advice you only after considering your condition of retina and other related occular conditions. It is 15 minute procedure safe 100 percent in normal and in Rp also safe but patient must have some functional vision in back (my experience 2 percent vision in central helpful for us. IN rp patients you will not get clear vision immidiately after surgery like normal ones but after 10 to 24 hr you will get benifit (due to dialation of irish drop effect)

The post retinal detachment is very less with laser phaco as laser is used to make cut of exact require size. You must put eye drops very correctly as per advice of surgeon.

once IOL in put ,it become lifetime. so use plain good quality of IOL. Avoid progressive lence (for RP) BUT THE RATE OF POST LASER CAPSULAR OPAQUEFICATION IN RP IS MORE SO yOU NEED TO DO CAPSULECTOMY 6-12 MONTHLY.This capsulectomy is not a surgical method but with laser beam IOL is clened and 3-4 minute process. I had fear in my mind before 1st laser capsulectomy that it may detoriate retina but it improved the colour sensitivity and totally harmless and safe .After catract surgery my IOP become normal , gave up my distance cylindrical glasses of no -4 and now I need +1.5 reading glass to read small fonts. I am so much Thankful to Dr V Rahatekar and her team who dome my catract surgery in both eye with gurded pronosis and wiht full care and confidence. She was amazed on the results after 3 rd day followup.(It was her first catract surgery with RP patient). One thing I wish to say that, if some micro particals of catract remains in the eye ,can be disolve by laser after 4-5 monsth after surery. One more thing many times you feel dem lit in indore light. So put Plain White IOL .Now I get adopt ot it.

So, If you have some functional vision in back and your doc advice you to have surgery Pl go ahead feerlessly and confidently and enjoy available vision for some more years till it detoriate due to GREAT R P !!!!
