My PT keeps telling me I should be seeing a neurologist for my RSD. I see a pain managemnt doctor but that is all. Should I have a neurologist as well. my pain doctor is great and helps me with my pain but my PT keeps telling me that a neuro. will help me with my meds, my body jerks, and the neuro pain. Your thoughts are appreciated.Ermm

I was referred to a neurologist for a diagnosis. I think that many people here see a neuro as well.

It might be a good idea to see one if your insurance will pay for it. They may know of other treatments or options for you.

Just make sure that all of your doctors are aware of what meds you are taking.

I'm an Advocate

Hi Yoderj

I too am only seen by my pain management doctor. Many here and many that I speak to also have Neurologists. I've never seen one. I'm beginning to think it may be a good idea to be seen by a neurologist also. It may be a good idea for you to do the same.

A neurologist can also diagnosis other problems which might exist. Often times our pain managers only help us manage our pain. They don't always diagnosis new problems.

I'm covered at the pain clinic/pain manager under Worker's Compensation, so I'm not entirely sure if I need a referral from the clinic to go to a neuro. I don't currently have any other insurance.

The main reason I feel I need to go to a Neuro is because of the body jerks. They are too intense. I know that Dystonia is the cause, but I'm not sure if there is another treatment option for it.

I think it would do us both good to try and go for it.

Warm wishes,

~Twinkle
