Hi everyone! Just wanted to introduce myself. I have RSD and it is in my legs, my right arm, shoulder and hand, lower back, hips, vagina, abdomen, bladder, stomach, lungs, neck, and eyes. I developed RSD after a fall down a flight of stairs where I shattered my ankle on Halloween, 1999, where they did surgery to put in a plate and 13 screws. I knew almost immediately that there was something wrong inside the cast as it was burning like crazy. When he took it off to do xrays, he could already see changes in the bones and skin. He referred me to a pain management doctor. The treatments that he started did absolutely no good and the disease spread to my three limbs and into my autonomic systems as well. It seems to have no end to spreading and it is such a hard disease to deal with. Who would have thought a shattered ankle could have done all of this????? Well, I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself - I look forward to getting to know you all - Please feel free to PM me at any time at lisakcoan@yahoo.com if you need/want to. I also am on yahoo messenger as lisakcoan@yahoo or aim as loveloonslisa@aim. Take care and I wish you as low a pain day as possible!!!

Take care and Hugs!!!

Lisa

Hey Craig - it was great getting to know you yesterday in our conversation! So nice to chat with someone with our same problems, isn't it??? I go to the doc tomorrow for a re-check from my 7 injections that I had done. I'll let you know how it goes. Things have been so crazy at this doctor's office lately - it puts me on edge and makes me feel very uneasy every time I have to go there now. Plus I never know when I will have to do the ol' drug test when I go in - knowing him, he probably waited until the first of the year when I will have to pay for it all out of pocket!!! Stinker! Well, take care and I'll talk to you soon

Hi Lisa,

My name is Bobbie and I can completly understand your shock and disbelief in such a small injury causing such major havoc in your life. I had what one would consider a freak accident on an Elevator last Jan 19th being 2007 where the elevator jumped as I was getting off and my heel caught as I stepped off and I turned my upper body turned but the lower part of my left leg did not.

My knee popped. I thought nothing to much of it other than it hurt some but did the Worjer's Comp paperwork as required by my job and went home for the weekend. By Monday morning the knee was so swollen I couldn't move it so I wnet to the Docotr's and they did all the tests told me I had to have an MRI when the swelling went down. They found no injury at all but by that point you couldn't even touch my leg without me jumping off the table from pain and the discoloration from lack of circulation was unbelivable. The good thing was her PA used to work with an Orthopedic who did alot of work with RSD patients and she caught theisgns real fast and they did the EMG and NCV tests fast. They refered me to a Great Pain Management DO here in Jacksonville, FL DR Salahi who I treasure to this day. I went thru the shots and drug treatments in fast steps nothing worked and he immediately said well then let's go witht he Neurostimulator Implant. He was real clear on the fact that it was not a cure nor an be all end all I wen th thru the Psych eval and did what I had to and I now have it. Let me tell you I can now sleep again at night and get dressed if if that is all it gives me it was worth it all because I never thought I would sleep again and getting dressed was torture.

My problem now is that even though everyone know I have RSD no one will call it that in my final Diagnosis nor will they give me a disability rating for work. I still can't sit for more than 30 minutes without my leg changing colors and loosing circulation nor can I stand for any length of time. I also have a court case that requires me to have independent Doctors from my Worker's Comp docotrs review me and trying to find any around here is a nightmare. Neruologist want to refer me to Orthopedics who specialize and no Orthopedics around her specialize in it unless it is spinal cord related or in the hand or shoulder. So if anyone knows of someone in the northern Florida or at this point anywhere in Florida that is an Orthopedic that specializes in RSD please let me know.

Hi Bobbi,

Have you written to Jim Broatch at jwbroatch@aol.com? He is with one of the large rsd groups online. One of the organizations and he can help you find somebody that might help you. He has done so for people in our area. Let him know that I sent you and that you are looking for whatever type of doctor you are looking for and he'll put out the word and hopefully they will get some good response and somebody to help you out. They work with some really great doctors and have a database of doctors that are really good throughout the country. We just recently started a local RSD support group in KC and he has been so very supportive.

I'm so sorry for what you have been going through. What a weird thing to have happened with the elevator, huh? I think all of us who get this disease have a weird story of how we get it. It's just such a strange disease and the way we get it is so unbelievable to other people... but so real to us. I sure hope you get your WC awarded to you sooner than later and that everything goes well. You certainly deserve to be treated right!

Take care and feel free to contact me anytime! You can also write to me at my email address at lisakcoan@yahoo.com.

Love, hugs and peace,

Lisa

Hi Craig,

How have you been doing? Haven't heard from you in a while? How's your pain been doing? I found that I was shorted on my pain medicine this month but didn't find out until almost the end of the month. It is 7 pills of my oxycontin 80's. thank goodness I did a pill check when I did or I would have been without totally for over 2 1/2 days! As it is I am having to go without one dosage for 4 days. This stinks! I hope you are doing okay and that you have beenhaving lower pain than usual. I know that's like asking for a miracle but I believe in miracles LOL. Keep in contact, ok?

Love, hugs and peace,

Lisa

Hello, go to RSDRX.com and that will take you to Dr. Hooushmand's old web site. He was practicing in Vero Beach, but I think he has just retired. There is new blood to take his place and that might be a starting place for you. I am in the Central Valley of California and do not know of any dr. here on the west coast that specialize in RSD. I read that Ketamine treatments may start in San Diego when the FDA gives approval for this process but no telling if that will be in our lifetime. The Ketamine treatments are the only thing that will help any of us right now and are being done in Mexico for about $30,000.00. I have seen so many horror stories on pain blocks that I have ruled them out as an option for me. They give some relief, from 2 hours to 10-12 weeks in some cases, however it usually spreads when it comes back.
