HI..chewbi... it is ok to put a link on here, as long as it is not selling or actually promoting any product, that you or your company will gain from.... It this is just a normal published article... no problem....

And Welcome...... hope you make yourself at home here....

Okay. After about two hours of research and looking for illustrations or photos (and finding none in articles I had acces to), I see the theory I tried to explain above is an older theory.

Howard explained (or raised questions about) the new theory I found stated in about 30 newer articles. "Narcotics act by binding to one of the many sub-receptor types, all of which are either in the dorsal horn of the spinal column or in the brain - not along nerve cells. If RSD were somehow able to cause opioids not to work, then the endogenous endorphins would also be blocked, with pretty awful consequences."

So we are still looking for illustrations or photos to this new theory. I can do links to papers explainin it but the language is more complicated than my attemp to explain the older theory so...I will keep looking.

My pain management doctor gave a presentation at my pain conference in Nov. He explained it very simply: Think of the receptors as buckets. Everyone starts with so many. When the bucket gets filled up, in this case with opioids, the body produces more. The more narcotics/opioid, the more buckets. It is a viscous cycle.Pretty soon you have increased your need for more buckets. If they don't all get filled, pain comes back even stronger.

This makes sense to me Smile

Please do put links to any of these papers on for all of us to read. I've not heard of this before and it concerns me as someone who takes opiate medications. Thanks.

I've never heard anything about this and have been looking for an hour or so for something about this and can't find anything. Please don't put scary thoughts out here without some place where we can read about why you say it is true. I would really appreciate some kind of studies or papers or research about this. Otherwise people can come here and say anything about anything and act as if it is true which could lead to scary responses. I'm not saying that this does not happen, I am just saying that if it does happen there will be some kind of research or papers or studies that we could read about it. Thanks for any links. They would be greatly appreciated.

Fletch2ya- I am at pain8 and have most of the day. What I was referring to was an nutritional supplement to help with the opiates. I am in a lot of pain and frustrated here in my town at the lack of care it seems to be happening to me. A good day is 5-6. What a so called friend told me that I am a drug addict, I don't get high. I have been sober from alcohol for 21yrs. I actually write down what I take and count out the medication for the day in one of those pill boxes. That way because my short term memory is poor I do not have to second guess myself every day if I missed a med or not. I get confused in these flares and feel like I am going crazy.

HI...chewbie.. I am sorry you are having so much pain... I understand that also...I am going through a really bad flare myself right now.... I understand the deal with the so called friends.... if they think you are taking meds, you are automatically a junkie..... I hate that premise.... I too.... have to write down what meds I take, as I can't remember either.....

I do hope you feel better...... you are in my thoughts and prayers..

I have heard of this to Rev that is why I only take the dilaudid when I really need it. My 1 month supply usually last 2 months and I refuse to go any higher with my pain meds. I have been on the same amount for 6 years even tho the RSD has spread and the pain is much worse at times BUT because I don't increase it and try mind control and breathing technics 1st only if that does not work then I will take a dilaudid. I do find the fentanyl patches great. It seems like on the day they need to be changed is when of coarse I have more pain.
