Unsure I woke up this a.m. w/ major stiffness in my right hand (my (right) arm, shoulder blade area & hand are affected. I was wondering what kind of excersizes would be good for the stiffness in my hand (this feeling is new today) And thanks to everyone who welcomed me with love & support.

Goodmorning! When I wake up with stiffness, I usually gently curl and uncurl my hands and arms to kind of "wake them up"... I do them with them hanging down to my sides and with them raised above my head, if my shoulders arent to sore... It gets really tricky this time of year when the weather is cooling off and my joints are feeling tender and sore...

Hope this helps!!!!

Hi cuz, I'm the same as yourself with rt. hand, arm, shoulder and neck is affected as well. Starting to mirror in the left as well. In Pt I'd carry a bucket with a 3lb. weight in in for like 30 minutes. Gravity, It helps loosen your joints and ease the stiffness. Keep it moving,I know it isn't always easy but any movement will benefit you in the long run. Not resistance unless you can tolerate it. Your in a constant battle to keep what you have(mobility) and you want to give in but don't fight for what you have and to keep what you got. Hope it helps you devolope a routine for youself.

One of the things that has kept my arms and shoulders moving all these years through RSD and now arthritis is standing in a doorway one arm at a time I start with the hand at my side facing the doorway and standing as close to the door way as I can; I walk my hand up the doorway as far up as I can. To start with I could always go full reach over my head. Now it varies but I go just as high as I can reach. Then I turn sideways to the door and walk the hand up with my arm rising up beside me, then do the other side. I also stretch my fingers as wide and flat as I can. This has kept my shoulders moving, as well as my elbows and wrists. Can't straighten my hands anymore but I have had this monster for 9+ years. I feel I'm doing pretty well for arm and shoulder mobility.

I also do the circles, and then I usually move over to the side of the bed and dangle it.. LOL I know that sounds crazy but my OT also told me that the gravity from that will help, and it usually does. I then swing my arm forward and back. only as far as I can tolerate it.. But it usually gives me a "kick start" in the morning.. and at night, it seems when i am trying to relax, it tenses up again.. at that point i get a yard stick.. lay on my back and try to raise it above my head.. just going slowly, breathing in and out to relax me..

Hope you get some relief...Smile

I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sick of this!!! All of it! I'm so pissed off right know I can't think straight. I read on some of your pages that you have peace & joy... I know God give us these blessings (maybe I'm just closed off to them right now) but loosing my best friend and this on top of it ... Feels like too much so maybe God got it wrong. It IS too much to handle now! My son's birthday is tomorrow, & how am I supposed to put on a happy face ... (shoot man, maybe I'm just being selfish, i don't know) Like I said, not thinking clearly & on total over load. I thank God he has given some of you peace & joy... I only hope He will grand me the same someday. Hang in there everyone, I wish I could be more of a support to everybody. I promise I'll get there someday!

I'm an Advocate

Hi Cuz

It is a lot to endure, there are breaking points, and I wish you weren't having such a hard time. Right now, I'm going to pray that you get through you sons birthday. I wish I could take your pain away just for the day. I really do.

I know this isn't a lot.. it might help a little and I hope that it does.. it may not ease your pain, but it may ease your emotions.

If you're body can tolerate it, a warm bath with bubbles or calgon for pleasant smell, candles around the tub, for aroma therapy. Try to relax your body beginning at either your head moving downward or feet moving upward.. close your eyes and go to a happy place.. a time in your life, you didn't hurt and you were so very happy and meditate on it. Try to relax and let go.

I imagine you're body is awfully tensed right now and it will cause you more pain.

I hope this helps you at least a little, so that you can enjoy the day with your son.

Hugs,

~Twinkle

Aww Cuz, Twinkle just said what I was going to as well, try to get your mind in a "safe place" a place where you don't hurt so bad. I have days just as you are having sweety, I am sure we all do.

Your not closed off to them, you are just trying to adjust to this monster. I myself have been there as well. I went through so much Denial, thinking this couldnt happen to me.. But once I was able to just get my head in the right place, and think I am lucky it is something not worse... I became easier adjusted. Its never easy to adjust to..

Just being here for each other, in times like this is the important thing. Praying for you to get through the birthday party tomorrow.. and some pain free days for you as well...Sending you many Gentle HUGS.. Hang in there sunshine!!
