I am trying to make a correlation with what the nerve medication can/supposed to deal with.

I know in talking with my doc that the/any nerve medication can help deal with burning, pins and needles, shooting pain and even when a limbe or part of your skin feels numb.

But what about the swelling? does the nerve medication help deal with that symptom??

I am not talking about any specific nerve medication just asking about it in general.

I have been experiencing a lot more swelling, on a daily basis and sometimes more than once per day -- bigger and redder. Swelling is in the hands and feet.

Just curious to get opinions. Cool

I wish someone would wake me up from this nightmare.

PJ....I have more swelling now then usual, I think its due to the humidity. I actually tend to burn alittle more as well. I just started taking Nucyenta and it has helped more than the other meds have in the past!

Good Luck, hope it gets better!

I wouldn't think that "nerve medications" would have much affect on swelling. The heat and humidity can and if you're out much in it that could cause some swelling. Today I noticed swelling in my RSD feet that was not normal and it was very hot. Nothing else was really going on that was any different than every other day pain-wise or medication-wise. I also hope yours gets better!

Hi pjs. I don't know that there is any pharmacological basis for nerve meds helping to reduce severe swelling.

I know one fairly reliable method (theoretically at least - as most of us are unlikely to tolerate it) is the manual lymphatic drainage method used for lymphoedema is general, combined with compression garments. Compression garments are a total no-no for me as my pain just becomes more and more amplified, but being on Topamax plus a lot of work with my physiotherapist has meant she is also able to do some gentle massage. This has certainly helped my swelling. I'm also experimenting at the moment with an arnica salve - which is supposed to help with post-operative oedema amongst other things. It also seems to be helping some of my muscle pain.
