Greetings...My doctor recently mentioned Central Sensitization potentially being the cause of the intermittant burning in certain places on my body. Without any visible symptoms(inflam., color, temp) it is most likely not RSD spread. This made me feel better until I read into CS. In CS, the pain signal spreads into your CNS and if left untreated, becomes embedded and systemic. Goto Youtube.com and look up "RSD Central Sensitization"mpg. Theres a good basic explaination of the Phu&^$ed up phenomenon. I feel like theres an hourglass counting down the minutes in my ability to go into remission. I know of a few people in this forum, myself included, that would like to hear of any experiences with this. Thanx

I understand what you are saying and to a point it is correct. I have read a lot of articles and each say if you can do this or that within the first year your chances are better to go into remission.

well, my chancers were blown when the doc took 5 years to diagnose me.

BUT what I wanted to say anyone could go into remission at any time. Of course things have to be all lined up and if you work hard enough -- Anything is possible. Do not ever give up saying to much time has passed.

CRPS is very finiky, you never know what it will do and how it will react to anything.

Never count yourself out and never ever give up. yeah, it is a difficult journey but nothing will ever happen if you do not try..

Smile

that is my 2 cents

I wish someone would wake me up from this nightmare.

I am new to CRPS so they say my chances of remission are good? Anyway, This Central Sensitization was explained to me by my Neuro when I mentioned hot feeling in the right side of my face from time to time. And also a hot right foot. I also have occasional electric type pain in my left arm as well. I have had CRPS for approx. 2-3 months in my right hand and forearm. So that is my story in a nutshell...

Yes, chances are better for you . Ayone in the first 8 months of the disease have a higher chance of remission with nerve block injections in a series 7-10 days apart together with intensive physical therapy. Some docs say just the therapy. The younger the patient, the better chance of remission. But like others here say, never give up hope. New meds, treatments are producing remission in some and spontaeous remission can happen in a luck few. And new treatments are in trials. For you jkb, the hope is higher. The ketamine treatments seem to be our best hope right now, but there are other hopes now in our future. Maybe even for an older horse in the war like me.

When I read about central sensitization it sounds almost the same as RSD to me. I'm not sure what the differences are or how many people might be diagnosed with one and actually have the other, but it is so similar I'm not sure that one is better than the other. Bad pain that won't go away due to inappropriate pain signals being sent by our brains and spinal cords... can anyone define the actual difference between the two? I can't.

My understanding is that people with Crps can also suffer from central sensitization, two different things.
