MDJunction to me

MissNikkiAnn"When you have an illness with the name "Non-Familial Dysautonomia" (a name that most people, and even doctors, have never heard of), you need a network
of people who understand the name and the symptoms/issues that come with it.
MDJunction led me to that network of people during a very confusing and sickly time. For this I am thankful. And for this reason I try my best to give back to other members the same care and help that I received through MDJunction.

I'm an Advocate

HI.... I wanted to say I am sorry for what I wrote about Paula...... But to be honest, I have read and heard her a couple of times before, using RSD as an excuse for her actions. But that is neither here nor there...... I do not believe that she has RSD, I think that she has something else......... But it does bother me that she is trying to be a spokes person for RSd and she does not have it.... I wish that we did have someone famous that had RSD and could be a good voice for us....

I still would like to see if we could put a letter campaign together and send the Dr. Oz show tons of letters......Asking for equal time from people that actually have RSD....

Hi Craig,

I don't think the Dr Oz show is a good place for an RSD/CRPS discussion at all. His show is strictly about pushing natural therapies and he very seldom talks about medications at all. I think the only reason Paula Abdul was even allowed on his show was because she had the vitamin products she's backing and the healthy juice recipe to share. I watched Montel Williams on one of his shows on Youtube that I never saw aired on TV about Montel using marijuana for his horrible MS pain. I have wondered if many of the tv networks never aired the show.

When we see him on tv he looks healthy and doesn't look sick but he is very sick.

I've had doctors treat me with disbelief if I "look" good during an office visit and it pisses me off really bad when it happens.

That's about it. hugs, Lucky

In a way I agree with Craig snd Lucky. But I would love for Dr. Oz to have a 15 minute rebuttal if you will with a couple of our spokespeople to share that RSD is a real, auto-immune disease of nerve cells that is more than just pain and is not brought on by stress but by injury or surgery. It would almost be better if one of the spokespeople was in a wheelchair. Perhaps the people could be a skype call as he has done before. I just do not feel like we are helping our cause by leaving Paula Abdul as our spokesperson on a show that reaches millions of people.

Hey guys! My wife and I watched the show as well because we were also excited as I was recently diagnosed. What a disappointment! First clue, why are they still referring to it as RSD? Dr. OZ should have explained that it now called CRPS. And the whole ice thing surprised me as well.

Plus, what makes Paula so "brave" to finally reveal she has this? Dr. Oz kept treating her like some sort of angel.

The whole thing was very strange to me. I don't doubt she may have CRPS. But she is not being very forthcoming about the true experience if she does. Judging by the way she is carrying herself, she seems to be in remission. But by the show, you would think she got that way by drinking smoothies and taking custom made vitamins!

My wife and I sent an e-mail to the DR. Oz show with our feelings. Not sure what good it will do. But if more of do, maybe something will happen. Lets make some noise!

Jon

Hi everybody,

Like I said, Dr. Oz is nothing more than a vitamin and suppliment pusher. I think if Trudy could get an interview with Paula it would be much better than Dr. Oz cause she would be able to discuss what she wanted to instead of what ever rules Dr. Oz show has.

I've watched Dr. Oz a lot and it seems like every time I do I end up writing down 5 or more vitamins or herbal remedies but NEVER ever have I heard him suggest a brand name drug so I feel his whole show is to push none prescription remedies.

I agree about the old name of rsd should have been CRPS but I fail on that all the time myself. I fully support everyone here who wants to write that Oz show and complaint but I personally wouldn't waste my time cause I think it would be a big waste of time. If anyone here has a way to contact Paula Abdul and plead with her to find a news source that would be willing to do a real story about it and that she would be able to line up with other CRPS suffers to show the vast differences that would be worth a shot better than Dr. Vitamin man. Bless you all and a big hug to all of you who were upset and disappointed with this show. I don't let this kind of stuff bother me cause it pisses me off too much and makes me hurt more. hugs, Lucky

Hey all, I sent Paula Abdul a message via Facebook. I was very nice. I just said I think she needs another forum to discuss the real meat of her experiences with this disease, but we appreciate her bringing CRPS to light. Lets see if I get a response. I will let you know.

Hi Lucky,

Yes, I was pretty harsh about Paula, but she is not honest about having to take medications and I saw her reality show a few years ago and she was almost unable to speak or walk she was so medicated. Therefore many people do not find anything she says the least bit credible. That was why I wished it could have been someone with some amount of respect for the truth of their words who would come on and say that they have RSD.

About the drink, she said ice, kale, frozen spinach, avacados, bananas, and appples with coconut water. The fruit was for sweetness and also she did add Stevia and it looked like quite a bit. I'm pretty sure that is it. Have you ever made "health" drinks like this? I know that you're someone who has been serious about dietary changes to fight what we have and I very much respect that. I've been almost the opposite to my own shame. But, I do want to make changes. I might even try a similar drink at least once to see if it's something I can do. For me, this kind of thing is almost prohibitively expensive, though.

I take what you say about us being mean about Paula to heart because I do think of myself usually as a kind person and even someone who has tried to reach out to those who are thrown aside by others. So, I apologize for being mean-spirited. I do still wish that there was someone who the public actually believed who was talking about having RSD, but for Paula I think she has suffered and I'm totally sad that she has. She seems nice enough and I hope she is truly feeling as good as she looks!

Lucky, I found the recipe posted online on Dr. Oz's website. It's:

Ingredients

1 cup chopped fresh kale

1 cup chopped fresh or frozen spinach

1½ tbsp hemp seeds

1 tsp chia seeds

½ avocado

½ banana

½ apple

1 cup coconut water

A few drops of stevia for added sweetness (optional)

Directions

Combine all ingredients in a blender and serve over ice.
