Hey.

Since I injuried my ankle almost 4 months ago I was prescribed neronite/gabatein within 2 weeks and the entire time after Ive been sorta in a weird/different mood. I was wondering if this is bc of nerontin or bc of the injury? I am sad depressed and needy?

I. Was also taken vicadin the entire tIme Ms contin and cymbolta for the last 6 weeks

None of these 3 would have changed my mood since the beginning So does Gabatein change ur mood?

I did not like the feeling Nerontin made me feel plus it did not help with my RSD. All of those medications can make you feel depressed. Sometimes it just takes longer for them to make you feel depressed. You might want to ask your doctor for something like Lexapro to help with the depression. I have RSD and it does help some with the depression.

Hi Elliot -

Psychological side-effects are well-known with Neurontin (gabapentin). I've suggested to many here that, for most drug questions, try rxlist.com. I just checked what it had for gabapentin side-effects, and here's a piece:

"Call your doctor at once if you have any new or worsening symptoms such as: mood or behavior changes, depression, anxiety, or if you feel agitated, hostile, restless, hyperactive (mentally or physically), or have thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself."

I took 4.5gm/day for years, and although didn't suffer any psych. effects, I was so disoriented and cloudy that I had to stop. But since you think it's causing you some nasty psych. effects, I'd take rxlist's suggestion and let the prescribing physician know.

Good luck, Elliot!

Elliot,

I agree with Howard that you need to talk to your doctor about this. Yes, Neurontin can cause these side effects. I do take it but have had some issues with cloudy thinking like Howard mentioned. Neurontin (Gabapentin) does help me with the burning pain, though, so I keep taking it.

I hope you feel better soon. The pain itself can make you depressed, as can the changes it can bring to your life. Try to remember that things can get better because it's true. We will be here to support you, too. Don't hesitate to talk to us whenever you need to. Most of us if not all of us have been depressed with our pain. If you haven't tried an anti-depressant, your doctor can give you one to try. I take Cymbalta because it can also help with pain control. Several other anti-depressants can do that, too. Good luck, Elliot!

I took gabapentin and it didn't changed my mood but by the second day of the second week, I became disoriented so I weaned myself off. My doc was not happy but then changed me to Lyrica.

I do agree with the other members that you should be talking to your doctor about any side effects.

Good Luck, Kathy

I was on gabapentin for about 5 years. I was fine.

However, to begin with I was dis-oriented but after a couple of day I was fine. I could think, problem solve and all that other stuff.

but I have heard of people who could never get used to it.

I agree, you probably call your doctor and let them know.

I wish someone would wake me up from this nightmare.
