Does RSD always spread to other parts of the body? Any comments?

I have never experienced spreading myself, although I do know others who have. I have had RSD in different parts of my body, but never at the same time. Mine as always gone into remission and then come back sometimes in the same place, sometimes somewhere new... but here is the info I found on RSD hope site... I hope it helps answer your question...

It may spread from one part of the body to another regardless of where the original injury occurred; and CRPS/RSDS can spread in up to 70% of the cases.(1) However, in a small number of cases (8% or less) it can become Systemic or body-wide. (1) Most often those who develop full-body or systemic RSD/CRPS had a spinal injury as the precipitating cause or as an additional injury.

HI...YES RSD can spread..... the word is CAN.... I have total body...and I had no spinal injury.... It started in my right hand from a dog bite... I have had many proceedures to stop this or help with the pain..... but ...nothing has worked......

I have had to take matters into my own hands and seek help else where. Because the medical community is still out to lunch when it comes to RSD......

Thanks, every case is different I'm sure. I don't know if mine is from the first injury to my foot or the second. But, although I never hurt my ankle, I have pain in it, too. The drs. want to say it's how I walk, but I know my body and it's not from how I walk.

When RSD spreads or switches to other body parts, do you get the same symptoms? The swelling, color changes and all or just pain? How long does it last? Do you get that pain on top of the original RSD site or does the pain lessen at the original site? Any info would be helpful. Thanks.

Sorry, but I had to bring this topic back up. OK, it's been established that we all have good and bad days, right?

When RSD spreads, do you get flares?

Does the pain stay forever or come and go?

When the spreading starts, does it spread quickly? Or do you notice that your leg now has it, then a year later, your arms or something like that?

Lazy1 RSD can and does spread to other areas. Take mine for instance, it started from an injury to my right thumb and because of time going by with all the wrong things being done and nothing being done for 5 months now I have full body RSD. Also as I have sometimes mirror effects come in where the pain and effects will be the exact same on the opposite limb which started to occur about 2 months ago for me.

RSD Spreading... I love talking about this one... I started with this in my left foot. It used to turn a dark purple deep red color and swell up till my toes looked like lil sausages. (shut up lookinglass, lol) then it spread up my leg to my hip, and its like the color spread too and thinned out with it. Then it spread to my Right leg. Now both legs turn a kind of splotchy purple color and my feet will swell like sausages if I am on them to long.

After I had the SCS implanted in December last year that old familiar burn started up in my spine and both arms... My arms were turning that splotchy purple color and my hands swelled so bad that my specialist told me to go to the nearest fire department and have them cut my rings off my hands. I have days that I cant get my arms in the air above my head because my shoulders hurt so bad. and there are days when I cant even type or hold a pen to write. The color changes fasinate me... Heck I have no life anymore.... lol Have I mentioned this week that I hate RSD?

LOL
