I'm a 39 yr old woman. Healthy, active, and just went through hell and back with my PE. Well, actually I'm not out of it yet....or so it feels. I just went through the PEs in early October, 2008 due to birth control (I'm told).

It all started with a pain in my neck and chest and a tightness and unable to catch my breath. I went to my doctor and she told me that I had pulled a muscle and gave me pain pills and muscle relaxers and sent me home. Three days later I went to another doctor and told him that it wasn't right.... something else was wrong. He took MRI's of my neck and upper back. They saw that I had a bulging disk in my neck and nothing else seemed amiss. But he thought that I needed an ultrasound for the pain in my lower right side in case it was my gal bladder. Before I could make it to the apt for the ultrasound (four days later)I ended up in the ER in dire pain. They diagnosed me, after a CAT scan, with Pleurisy and Pneumonia. They sent me home with more drugs. Four days later I had my sister take me to the ER again with awful pain that wouldn't go away even with all the drugs I was given. The same ER took another CAT scan and found massive clots all through my lungs. Who missed them the first time?? I wonder.

Then I stayed a week in the hospital. They kicked me out before I was ready because my clot levels had hit the target. Forget that I was in so much pain I couldn't move an inch, and had to have a family member stay with me for a month to care for me and my family. I lived in the recliner downstairs and barely moved for weeks. I have since vowed NEVER to go back to our local hospital, I have fired my long time doctor, and have paid much more attention to the little signs my body gives me when something is wrong.

I was furious to find that when I went to WEB MD and put in all my symptoms that I had in the very beginning.........it diagnosed me with a PE!! Why are doctors so awfully ignorant on this? Angry
