I just signed up for this site with the intention of meeting some other people with prostatitis and hear your stories and what your going through. I feel really alone in this just like I am sure so many of you feel. I really wanted to join a group and talk with others that are dealing with this. I guess I should just give a quick description about me. 24 years old and have been dealing with symptoms since November 2009. I look forward to meeting everyone. Thanks for your time.

Get to a urologist if you haven't already. Be advised treatment isn't quick. I took Bactrim for about 9 months and that helped, but finally was cured after starting to drink lots of Cranberry juice. The doc said that cranberry juice won't cure the problem, but it causes a lining to form around the urinary tract and prostate to keep infection from coming back. So this 2 pronged treatment along with a prayer group finally resulted in what I hope is a permanent cure. My doc said the cause is not emptying your bladder completely. Best of luck.

I have been to a uroligist and he gave me Levaquin. You took Bactrim for 9 months? That's a long time. I have taken multiple anitibiotics and it hasnt helped. I know that the pain does not go away easy but after multiple failures I am pretty confident that antibiotics are not going to help me. All of my urine cultures have come back negative. My next step is to get a cytopsy? The one where they put the scope in your bladder. I have also been doing a lot of reading up on David Wise's protocol a headache in the pelvis. I am glad that you have found relief.

If the antibiotics haven't helped you after 3 or 4 weeks, then my doc said they wouldn't work by taking them longer. They did help me some after about 3 weeks. It was a slow process getting better little by little. My cultures came back positive though. I've had a cystoscope and that ain't no fun, but it doesn't last long.

Hi Oldfaithful,

I feel your pain. I was having a really rough time with prostatitis. Took Bactrim for nearly a year and got quite a bit of relief. Some other things I did were to start drinking lots of cranberry juice. My urologist said that the juice itself won't cure anything, but does coat the lining of the urethra to prevent bacteria from entering. The other thing I did, similar to you, was join several large prayer groups. Now I'm not suffering as before but still have occasional bouts of burning. The meds prescribed to me now are Avadart and Uroxatral.

The best to you!

I too have come to accept this disease. There are two different types, bacterial, and non-bacterial. For those of us that have non-bacterial it is really frustrating not having a cure or something like antibiotics that work for us. The only thing you can do it to try and find things to lessen your symptoms and to make yourself as comfertable as possible. Trying not to stress too much about it is a big key. Streching and external PT has helped me also. One day I would like to try internal PT. Best of luck to everyone.
