does anyone know if the alternative nutritional therapies work for those with prostate cancer in the bone already or is this just for prevention?

Kathy, I haven't been on this for a bit now. Did you get any responses? I am considering alternative therapies for my husband - he has mets to the bone and is in constant pain. Lori

I did not receive any responses, but we go back to the doctor today and I'll let you know what he says.

Please do let me know. How are you coping? I find myself in tears much of the time. I didn't realize this was such a nasty disease.

Did you do any alternative stuff for your husband?

Lori

We stopped crying when we found something that we could control. Diet and exercise. My husband was about 35 pounds overweight and research shows that the prognosis is better if the person is 'fit'. So we started a diet primarily looking at the Snuffy Myers information and the book Disassembling Cancer. We increased soy (I use it in cooking and mashed potato's, pudding, etc, as well as soy yogurt which actually is very good. Decreased dairy, both eggs and milk as well as many cheeses except the hard cheeses which have less fat. Increased salmon and chicken and have more meatless meals and increased organic vegetables and fruits. I keep a tray of fresh vegetables in the refridgerator at all times. We also cut out hydrogenized oils, cooking only with olive oil and enriched flours, buying bread at the organic health food stores with wheat flour and less sugar. We pretty much cut out all red meat except for a meal about every two months. Yesterday was my husbands doctor appointment and he was impressed. My husband has lost 17 pounds. I have two huge notebooks full of information and I continually ask for clarification both from websites and doctors. My husband is also on selenium, lycopene and Vitamin D as well as calcium. good luck and let me know how things are going. You can e-mail me directly at kbncdiag@aol.com.
