my father was diagnosed with prostate cancer about 8 months ago - with PSA level of 6000 - yes 6000! they did hormone thereapy and brought his levels down to 16 but they are rising again and fast. The Drs have decided to try Chemo since there is nothing else they can do. He has the cancer from head to toe in all of his bones etc. I wonder if it is in his bomnes does this mean it has gone to his organs already? I have tried to convince him that he cant go thru chemo alone, as I am in CO and he is in CA. He is a strong, stubborn man and doesnt seem to want much help. I thin k he is still in denial... my husband and i are looking to move back to CA to be near him, but dad just says... "there really isnt anything you can do... why do you want to come out here?" etc.etc....

sometimes, you just don't listen to what they say. It may be that he doesn't want you there due to the 'realness' of it all. Go anyway.

Thank you for your email _ since I posted last - he has agreed that we should be there. We are in the process of looking for houses, daycare, jobs etc. I cant wait to be there and see him and for him to spend time with the grand kids.

I have been diagnosed with prostrate cancer since November 2002. About two years ago I was told that the lattest CT scan and MRI showed I the prostrate cancer had metastecized to all of my bones. I was on hormone therapy until six months ago when I developed pain in my right hip. I had radiation for the pain. Then a month ago I had pain in my lower back. I just finished fourteen treatments of radiation for the back pain.

Last week I saw my oncologyst and he told me that he has never seen a case like mine. The hormone treatment I am on has reduced my PSA to zero, non-detectable. He has taken me off the chemo-therapy that I was on because the chemo was killing my good cells as well as killing the cancer cells. My body couldn't tolerate the harsh treatment. The only way to tell if the chemo was working was to see if I developed pain in my body, which I did. The chemo didn't stop or contain the cancer due to it attacking the bones in my lower back proved. My oncologyst said he has never seen a case like mine and will practice medicine for another thirty years and never see another case like mine. He doesn't know what to do next. I went to Sloan-Kettering in New York, NY for a second opinion about starting chemo in the first place, so my oncologyst is calling the doctor at Sloan-Kettering to see if they have any suggestions or see if NY has a clinical trial I can join. The state of Georgia doesn't have any clinical trials that I qualify for.

I can tell you right now that having someone with you is a great support for anyone going through any part of prostrate cancer. I enjoy watching my grandchildren and helping my family and friends when ever I can. I am enjoying my life and will until God calls me home. Only God has that answer. So stay in there and enjoy each day.
