I am writing this according to what my husband says as he had laperscopic surgery in May of 2007. He says he is very happy with his decision. After discussing all the options available. He decided to go with laperscopic surgery at the Mayo clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He said he had very minimal discomfort after the surgery, and had his surgery Tuesday morning and was released Wednesday afternoon. He is very happy with his recovery. He had nerve sparing surgery, and has very good sexual function. He is not taking any drugs such as Viagra. After the surgery the doctor does prescribe Viagra, or such for 3 months to get the blood flowing. He said the Viagra did seem to give him longer, harder erections. Right now he is getting good erctions on his own so he isn't doing any Viagra. He also had very little incontinence. He leaked a little, so he wore a small pad when he was at work. After a few months, most days he has no leakage at all. If he does, it is minimal, like less than a teaspoon, and he says it only seems to be if he is overly tired, and has like over exerted himself. He had a checkup in September and his PSA was undetectable, which is great. He was 61 years old at the time of surgery. He said he is glad he did the surgery, because the outlook isn't so good if you do nothing, especially if you are likely to live longer than 5 to 10 years. He said there wasn't any stress afterward,or frustration, or anything.

If you have any questions, he said he would be happy to help you in any way, or even talk to you on the phone .
