MDJunction to me

jenniferdiva"MDJunction has been just an amazing support for me. The people who are on mdj are so nice! Unlike the many other support sites that I have been on. I have made several friends on mdj who are so supportive and so educated about mental illness. Of course non of us are doctors, but we certainly offer each other hugs, opinions, and advice. I have learned a great deal from my friends on mdjunction. I am also encouraging other people who suffer from mental illness to come on to MDJ. It can be a life line." (jenniferdiva)

Hi everyone,

Good news....after 6 months on norprolac(quinagolide) my PRL is normal for the first time in 10yrs.My MRI results shows that my tumor has shrunk 1mm(now 3mm) and my pituitary gland is no longer swollen; back to normal size.

Hopefully if meds continue to work, i'll be tumor free and off meds by July 2012.

That is great news! This shows that quinagolide is effective. Did you have any negative side effects when you started taking it?

That is wonderful! I hope they continue to work for you, you must be really pleased Smile

I hope you don't mind me asking, desertrose, but I put on a bit of weight when my prolactin levels soared and my doctor told me that quinagolide (which I will start taking next week in addition to cabergoline, as soon as the drug is shipped to my pharmacist from the UK) may cause weight loss as my prolactin levels normalise. Did you find this to be true?

Rhub, no significant side effects. Occassional nausea which goes away when i drink diet coke.Nausea can be avoided by monitoring what i eat...spicy food and milk makes it worse.

When you start taking this they advise that you take it before bed ..eat half a sandwich(something bland like chicken or cheese), take pill then finish sandwich...it works..no nausea.I've become lazy about making a sandwich before bed, so i do diet coke instead.

Greenmojito, yes i gained weight with increased PRL levels. It was truly depressing and i couldn't lose that weight with healthy eating or mild exercise. The good news is i lost 15lbs after the first month.Weight has stabalised since.

All the best with your treatment.

Just saw your response desertrose, that is wonderful! It is such an insignificant thing when compared to having a brain tumour, I guess, but it really got me down. Thrilled Norprolac worked for you Smile

I have one more question though - and that is, were you on any other meds at the same time as the Norprolac? I'm still on 2mgs of Dostinex twice weekly, alongside the Norprolac, and it seems excessive seeing as it's clear Dostinex is no longer working for me (hence the starting the Norprolac!) We're debating bringing it up with the doctor next time we see her...

Also, I've noticed a side effect to Norprolac (must be, as nothing else has changed!) - I can't tolerate most types of alcohol now, and I used to before! I had one measure of rum one night and felt sick most of the next day, while any time I've drunk more than one measure (one measure!) I've spent the day after vomiting, and with a severe headache Sad

I was diagnosed early so i've never been on more than one med at a time....parlodel(bromocriptine) from 1996-2001 then norprolac from 2009-now.

I gave up alcohol in 1998 so i can't comment on side effects with alco.
