Hi, everyone, and I am very glad to be a new member of this group. I have had PTSD since I was 15, and another tragic occurance around the birth of my youngest (she is fine) which resulted in PTSD. I am having surgery in a couple of days and associate this with the latter of the 2 traumas. I have been having triggers, flashbacks, and nightmares for over 3 months (partly)surrounding upcoming surgery, i believe, and fear dying on the table, although it is a minor surgery, leaving 3 kids alone, parentless. Truly I hope that others may understand. PTSD has been a MAJOR factor in my life and I feel I will never fully heal from the horrific events that caused it. I am a single mom in her late 30's and live with my children. No one in my family understands what it is like living with this diagnosis and I have been told by them repeatedly if "I could only just move on with my life and stop reliving the past".

Hi SleeplessinNY,

I hope your surgery went well and you are fully recovered...

It sounds like you have a lot on your plate right now.

PTSD never fully goes away and unless you've experienced it, most people don't understand.

Please know we are here for you!!!

Welcome to the group. I hope everything works out for you. The flashbacks and nightmares are terrible. Is there something you can do to help take care of you when these things happen. Like doing something special just for you? I know it sounds weird, but even a cup of tea or a warm bath might calm you down and make the flashbacks seem less intense. Just a thought.
