I have PTSD and it is not easy to deal with, flashbacks, nightmares, fears, constantly checking over and over the same things. If you have any advice, please tell me. Open to suggestions.

I have had ptsd for about 12 years now, I don't think I will ever stop looking overmy shoulder, don't think I want to, feel that is one way I can protect myself. I usually have triggers my a smell or someone who looks like the person who hurt me, I am living with it, but gosh it is hard, best of luck to u
I will not be on for a while, boyfriend in hospital in ICU on life support, not able to breathe on his own, I will try to check in

I have had PTSD for 4 years now. I still have triggers and flashbacks, and in time they have become a lot less, but I still have a long ways to go. There is hope, and keep that in mind, you will get through this all in His timing.

Yes triggers and flashbacks will probably be with you for the rest of your life. It is how you deal with them as to what kind of life you wll have.

Many that have Ptds are like rageing bulls, while others are recluse and like hermets. Which are you?

PTSD can cause you to withdrawl from people such as no more going to places where there are alot of people like concerts, ballgames, malls and etc. people that have this type of ptsd are usually like a piece bottle of nitro ready to explode at a moments notice and are or could be very dangerous. If this is you then please go get help from a dr. that will understand you problem and give you meds to help control things that cause this anger.

Others that have ptsd are the ones that just get so depressed they want to be alone. Many will not venture out of their homes or if they are men they will go into the woods and spend hours there alone eithr hunting or just sitting and thinging. These can become dangerous if left on their own to long. However, if they just do this for a few hours each day it can help them to deal with their problems. Women with ptsd usually like to just go to a quiet place like a library and read or be alone yet not totaly alone. Just a place where they feel safe but no one botthers them.

It is not unusual to find people like these in places like the desert, or in alaska, or on farms far away from large city type lives. Less stress, and less people to be afraid of.

Always haveing to look over your shoulder is not a good way to have to live. yet these people have this as a daily life. They can't even go to sleep at nite without waking up several times hearing things that really are not there at all. Breaking out in cold sweats. Dreams so, real they scream or really fight with what ever is near by them. Such as a table or the person in bed with them and they don't even remember what they did. Scarey huh!

Just remember today there are many places you can get help. Not like a few years ago when PTSD was not as well known. PTSD really didn't get known much until the vietnam vets came home. They have helped many people to realize it can happen to anyone that was in a situation so horrible the mind can never truely rest anymore. That the mind is always on guard for the life of the body.

For those that can have faith in God the road is much easier however, many will never know that true faith in God. It is sad but, it is true. He is really their best hope for some kind of rest and peace yet, that is the last thing they will look for.

I do hope what ever you do or who ever you go to you find your peace and help. Just don't take it out on yourself it is not anything you did really to cause this to happen to you. Even if you caused someone to lose their life in war. It was not your choise it was either you or them. For somereason unknow to you they died and you lived. Now use this as for something good and that life would not be taken in vain. That is one way to deal with the pain of something you did or you saw done.

Hello all. I was diagnosed with PTSD about 3 yrs ago. The doctors and everyone around me finally realized there was something going on with me and was willing to admit it. They should have known almost 40 years ago, instead of sending a 4yr old child for brain scans thinking she was dying.

I know all too well what you are dealing with saylorchris.
