I found out I had PCOS when I was 17. I am now 47. I am looking forward to joining in the chats.

As you can imagine, I thought I was a freak. You know, being 17 and all. The facial hair bothered me the most. I would use a dipillitory and my face would get burned and blistered. When I was first diagnosed it was call Stein-Levithal Sydrome. Nobody knew what to do or how to treat it. I was also told, I was pre-diabetic. That bothered me because that runs in my family and I am overweight. So I went to see an Endocrinologist in Columbus and he put me on medication to help. It is Diabetic meds. He also strongly recommends that I stop using the cream on my face and just go ahead and shave it. My face was almost ruined. I know that's the last thing I should have done, but I did it. Because of my ovaries, I was never able to have children. That upset me at first. Then I realized I probably dont need them and now here I am not working. Things do work out. Sorry I rambled a little, but I can answer some questions from the younger ones or newly diagnosed. If I would be allowwed.

Hey I noticed you're active in both sciatica and PCOS topics. I was wondering if one affects the other? I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 19, I'm 26 now. My periods are finally regular (somewhat) but... I'm noticing that this time its really REALLY light ... but my back is almost locked up right now too. Just a thought that my back could be aggrevating the other in some way.

I dont think they are related. I worked regularly up until I was 42. My back injury occurred as a result of family history and work related. At least I never have thought they were related. It was really nice to find out I was not alone and wish they had this site when I was younger. I could have used it. Anyway, welcome and let me know how things go with you. By the way, my periods are very light also. I think it may have to do with the Metformin. Of course it could be my age!!!!

I'm not sure how mine is doing.. haven't had a check up in a while. I'm not on meds for it now which is great...bcontrol.. progestin and all that junk was giving me LOTS of pain. I cant take anything other than ibuprofen for cramps because I'm allergic to the cramp meds. However having back pain AND PCOS is a blessing... when my back acts up the same time as my period is great actually... I get morphine for my back so the cramps are not noticable! haha!

Hi I have pcos and every since i tried clomid to get pregnant i have had sciatica pain. I think that it made my cyst grow and caused it to push on a nerve in my back.. So I think pcos and back pain are related.. Im going to the dr to find out why im having shooting pains and if it is indead sciatica pain and from a cyst. So I hope this helps .. Good luck. Pcos destroys about your whole body in my opinion and experience with it.

I agree that it destroys your whole body. I never thought about the cyst pinching a nerve. It's possible. Since I have been on Metformin, though, my ovaries are normal size. No cysts!!!! However, my sciatica comes from herniated disks. That's probably why I never associated the two. Thanks for the info. Take care. Sandy

You should ask you doctor. Preferably an Endocrinologist. It has really helped me.
