Can anyone tell me how many surgery's one can have to remove a Pituitary tumor? Ive had 2 & surgeon think's there's still tumor up there, based on high hormone levels. What determines enough is enough? I may also do radiation.

I have only had one surgery and 7years later my prolactinoma came back. Now I have a prolactinoma and hypopituitarism with last MRI showing empty sella syndrome. I would definitely get a second opinion and be sure you are completely comfortable with your choices.

What hormone is high for you?

Tiffany

Hi Molly,

I dont know if there is a limit to surgeries. I recall a few members have 2 or 3.

Can the surgeon see remaining tumour on your MRI?

I agree with Tiffany.. maybe think about another opinion before going through another one.

Yeah- the 2 surgery's were within 4 days of each other, based on high hormone levels after surgery. Now that Ive had 2, the hormones aren't as high, but their still up there, which indicates there's still tumor. Surgeon offered a 3rd surgery, somewhere down the line, &/or radiation. I had the surgerys in August & im having an MRI on Nov 5th..so I will be curious to see if tumor will show up on the MRI. If it does, then I will get a 2nd opinion before anyone plays in my brain again! My Cortisol & IGF-1 are high.

HI Molly,

I had two surgeries and now my tumor is back so I am wondering the same thing. I think it might be time for radiation. But I will find out the end of January.....
