Hi everyone!

My name is Dina and I'm going out of my mind. It's been 8 days since my tumor has been removed and I still can't taste. I can barely smell a couple of things but I still can't taste anything! It's so frustrating!!! I just want to know how long did you guys go without your tastes buds? I know it's silly but I feel so alone about this! I want my taste back Sad

Hi Dina,

Taste does take a while to come back. I am 9 weeks post op and my taste has just come back in the last dew weeks. It was annoying, and disconcerting for a while but eventually I could start to taste again.. Some people take longer, but I think it always returns. Take heart! My sense of smell, well that hasn't quite made it all the way back but it's better then it was. Patience! Glad to know you are otherwise doing well after your surgery.

Margaret

Hi Margaret,

Omg 9 weeks!?! I'm already really annoyed and its only been 9 days. Sad Being patient is something very hard for me to do. I guess I have no choice...

Other than the taste being gone I would say I'm back to normal. I am very fortunate Smile I had an awesome neurosurgeon. Anyway thanks for replying. I was just a little overwhelmed yesterday when I wrote that. I'm curious to know how long people have gone without their taste buds.

Hi Dina,

I had no sense of smell or taste for 6 wks.

For me the worse part was when I had a craving for something. I never knew what it was, or if I was eating it!!

Thankfully.. it does go away. Toast and coffee were the first things I was able to smell!

Brenda :)

Hi Brenda,

6 weeks is such a long time! I wish I would have known this before surgery. I would have had my favorite meal the day before! I'm so angry that I can't taste anything! I can smell everything if it's close to my nose but my taste is completely gone. It's very annoying.

Thank you for sharing your story with me. I'm trying to get use to the fact that I won't taste anything for weeks maybe months. Ugh, it's so hard cause everyone around me mentions how good lunch/dinner was and I get so jealous lol.

Been long enough now (2+ years) I can't remember how long it took before I got smell/taste back but even now things just don't taste salty to me. I've caught myself adding as much as a teaspoon of salt to one serving of mash potatoes just to taste them. Obviously this is not good, so I try hard to stop myself from this behavior but it is so annoying.
