likewise, I found out around a month before scheduled surgery that I had a non funtioning tumour and also it was just starting to touch my optic nerve, its difficult to say what will happen afterwards as the surgeons really need to see how the surgery goes and whether your pituitary starts functioning of its own accord again. its frustrating when you cant get alot of information, I really just had to trust in the process and the old 'wait and see' approach, frustrating as it is.. all the best fo...

I had headaches pre-surgery much like BCsix's headaches pre-surgery. I am now almost a month post surgery and although I've had a constant headache since I woke up post-op, it has improved. I also get the sudden stabbing pains that go away. My nose and face still hurt a lot, as do my teeth and gums. I'm told everyone is different and that it should all go away in time....

Actually the second operation was through my nose and not like the first which was through my upper gumline. this second one was a far easier operation and recovery in terms of , discomfort, recovery., because my tumour was so much smaller the by the second operation my surgeon could access it through the nose, what kind was you first surgery? Everyones individual situation is different of course, do you know what kind your second one will be
hope this helps!...

My surgery was almost two months ago, and while my taste and smell have not returned fully, I do get strange smells. My ENT instructed me to use a sinus rinse to make sure that there aren't any infections and it seems to cut down on those phantom smells. I get weird tastes too if I move my nose a certain way. It is very strange....

I have a 4mm prolactinoma and possible cyclical cushings. I was supposed to have surgery to remove it last year but the endo I had at the time got into some heated discussion with surgeon who cancelled surgery. I'm going back to seeing this surgeon since I have been to two other pituitary endo's and was treated with cabergolinie and bromocriptine both with severe side effects.

Has anyone had surgery with Dr. Theodore Schwartz?? His credentials are excellent and is very nice also. He sta...

Actually yes I've heard about it. It's called MacroProlactin, one doctor told me it is not bioactive and should cause no symptoms, however I think they are wrong because I have most of the symptoms for have regular prolactinoma I also have a 4mm adenoma and I may have cyclical cushings as well...which is hard to detect it could be years before they narrow it down. Good Luck to you...there isn't to much research out there on MacroProlatin...

Hiya
I wasnt sure where to ask this so I came here. I have had problems with my period for a while and headaches etc. I am 40 and have a few other conditions - fibromyalgia, adenomyosis and working on my anemia etc....I had some hormone tests to check it wasnt the menopause coming or anything (apparently it is hard to tell if you are in perimenopause though.

My Prolactin came back as 600 which was slightly elevated so I wasnt too worried so they did it again as a repeat and it is 935 now. Th...

Transphenoidal is supposed to be less complicated, have fewer risks and quicker recovery. From what I've learned, unless your tumour is massive, this is the kind of surgery you want. If your surgeon doesn't do it, find another surgeon. Where do you live Greenbee?
For the OP, my surgeon said she got the whole tumour out except for part of the membrane which was stuck to the pituitary. She didn't want to risk damaging the pituitary as I'm still young and of child bearing age. My pituitary if fun...

I was discharged on Tuesday, 5 days after surgery. It's now a week later and I'm still in so much pain. The day I came home was my best day yet, but instead of continuing to improve, I've gotten a bit worse. In fact today I have only gotten out of bed to use the bathroom. I also got a sudden bout of nausea and had a substantial amount of blood come out of my nose while vomiting. It stopped right after. My headache is constant and my facial pain too. No doubt it's partly the drugs make me feel wo...

BCsix, that sounds awful. I'm still in hospital. I'm told that the headaches may not go away but it's too soon to tell. My blood work was good and pit is functioning properly thank god. I may have had a CSF leak but that was under debate...either way it stopped now. I'm just waiting to see the ENT before going home, hopefully today or tomorrow. I'm still considering myself lucky. Will write more when I feel better. I've also written a bit more on a thread I started. I hope you get better soon BC...

A slight addidtion to BC6 reply, is that in either functioning or non-functioning, doctors can, more or less, control your hormones, but 20mm is getting to be on the big side. The tumor is likely to continue to grow and eventually surgery is the only option. The question is how long before it must happen. That depends on your symptoms.....eye sight, headaches and a few nastier things. As the tumor starts to be cramped for space, it can have some negative implications.

Prepare yourself by gett...

Hi,
I too had a non-secreting adenoma, and had my second surgery in Jan this year to remove nearly all - still 5% left, but Im very happy with that. Like you I had loss of period and some peripheral vision loss in one eye that led to the discovery, mine was 2.5cm at its largest point.
I have to say I feel a whole lot better after my surgeries, I have normal hormone function and had my first baby between the 2 surgeries.. I do get quite strong migraines which last at least 4 days every couple o...

Hi,

I am six weeks post op of a second Pit Tumor removal. First surgery was 10 years ago. This time they had to remove part of the pituitary gland.

I was on Cortisol for about six weeks with my first surgery and then slowly taken off with no complications. I currently have a low Cortisol level but have been taken off replacement meds. I believe to see if my Pituitary will start producing. I am also taking DDAVP and have tested as having low thyroid levels although I am not on any me...

I had surgery 8 weeks ago for a non functioning tumor. I just got my first period back this week. My doctor said that having the tumor shouldn't affect our decision to try after I had it removed. We'll be trying again now that my cycle it back.
My tumor was 2cm and has a high reoccurrence rate so it will probably be back whether I have kids again or not.
Good luck to you!...

BCsix is right. Just because it is non functioning does not mean it is not causing problems. I had the same as her. Very bad headaches felt like you had been run over no matter how much sleep you got. The strangest thing to me was the headache was the worst when you wake up in the morning.
I dont know where you live but an emergency MRI takes 2 weeks???? Here that means you are next in the tube......unless you are like me and have to wait on the 3mg Xanax to work before they can get you calm en...

Hi i started taking cabergoline in june 2012 and thought i would be fine as the side affects seemed more contained in comparison to the other remides... The only problem was all of the off chance side affects i managed to attract. I dont want to put you off cabergoline but i started to loose alot of hair and was very sick.
HI ALL-THOUGHT IT WAS IMPORTANT TO SHARE ANOTHER VIEW TO WHAT YOU ARE ALL EXPERIENCING AND HOPEFULLY-A POSITIVE OUTLOOK FOR SOME. MY HUSBAND WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A MACROPROLACTINOMA ABOUT 6 YRS AGO. HIS PIT TUMOR ALSO GREW AROUND HIS CORATID ARTERY AND WAS DEEMED AS INOPERABLE BECAUSE OF THE SEVERITY OF THE SURGERY. PROLACTIN LEVELS WERE ALSO VERY HIGH-OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD, ORIGINALLY I WOULD SAY BETWEEN 6,000-9,000. HE WAS PLACED ON CABERGOLINE (LOWEST DOSE- I BELIEVE .25 MCG 2X P/WK) AND A...
