Hi NYSUNSHINE, So i read that you were diagnosed back in 2004,How big was your tumor? And are you on the Bromocriptine, what dosage? I guess that i am trying to pick your brain as well? lol. I am so sorry to hear about the infertiity. Is that because of the medicine? If so they never told me that was a side effect of the bromocriptine! Have you been sent for an MRI? Was the tumor caused by a high prolactin level? Mine was, When they first discovered this tumor my prolactin was 3789. I guess if your not pregnant your level should be anywhere from 0-30. they would like to see it at 0 though. and now almost 6 months later my level is in the 200. Still pretty high but im working on it. They coulndnt do the surgery due to the tumor is surrounding my carotids, so they want to leave the medicine to work and im ok with that as long as it keeps shrinking. They did tell me that i would probably be dealing with this for years to come. But i do have to say things are getting better. I have went back to work and i have started an exercise group to lose some of the wait that i put on from 3 months of depression from finding out i had a tumor and staying in the house. I really will pray for you and your child that better days will come soon!

Thank you for your support, my tumor was that big it was a microadenoma (less than a mm). My prolactin level was that of a pregnant woman for almost 4 years now it is at 37 i think. They have done MRI but i havent done one lately the endocrin says it isnt necessary.

The infertility was because my tumor caused my hormones to be out of wack and i also had breast milk and missed periods and that just messed me up. I reemember in the beginning the docs would say "oh your young you will get pregnant"...yeah right i never did ..

I have an appt with a GYN-FERTILITY SPECIALIST next month...wish me luck.

Thanks, talk to u soon.

Welcome!!I saw an endo/obgyn, he is the one that finally figured out my problem(microadenoma) i wasn't trying to get pregnant, just had been having problems for yrs. no periods-heavy periods-lactation-very hairy-acne.....he checked my hormones and found my prolactin was high, had mri done and tumor was found. i took Cabergoline for at least 2 yrs, brought my prolactin level down but tumor kept growing. but the endo/obgyn was one of the nicest drs i have ever had. he really listened and answered my questions. when was last time they did mri to check on size of tumor? high prolactin is caused by tumor, high prolactin doesn't cause tumors. the tumor can produce prolactin which will cause your levels to be very high. or if it it non-functioning tumor it can cause slight elevation of prolactin just cuz it is there and interferring with pituitary normal function. i think depression is pretty common for people with pituitary tumors. and dealing with a sick child is very stressful. you can pick my brain if you want. i have memory problems but seems to be more short term. oh, you can read my profile if you'd like.

hi herro, thanks for the message. The last time they did an MRI was back in 2005 the endocrin i have now says he doesnt have to do an mri now. I fired my other endocrin before this one because he didnt listen to my concerns but this one kinda says the same thing. Do you think i should have one done? i think so, but they dont think its necessary. I have major depression since i was a teenager maybe the tumor exsacerbates it, who knows.

talk to u soon...

if it were me i would have an mri at least every 2 yrs. the purpose of taking Cabergoline is to lower prolactin level and shrink tumor. having hormones messed up can cause lots and lots of problems. i am still learning to speak up at the drs, i had them schedule me for mri for 1 yr followup since i had surgery. my endo said he didn't think it was necessary but i told him it was, even just to give me peace of mind. i have tried 3 endos where i am. good nite....

to NYSUNSHINE: I was reading some posts about you not having an MRI in 3 years and wanting one. This should be followed more often to see where things are at. Do you have a Neurologist? He/She will specialize in just the MRI every year and follow up on that. The endo can focus on just the hormones. I think that you should see a neurologist and have them follow up on all MRI results since that is their field. Get a referral Make an appoitment and get a copy of prior fims to compare and let the neuro follow you along with Endo. hope this helps.

i think if i tell the endo that i want to see a nuerologist, he'll probably say it isnt necessary. should i ask my primary? but then she'll probably say get a referral from the endo...i dont understand why he just doesnt send me for one??!!!

Hi gals! i go to dhmc, they have a special "board" for pituitary patients. they have meetings to review cases and make recomendations. my endo and my neurosurgeon are both on the board. when i have my mri next mth i have appt 2 hours later to see neurosurgeon. my primary will give me any referals i ask for, she is really good about that. i have all my "specialists" send her their notes and/or tests results so she can keep up with what is going on. i really like having her to see the "whole picture". ask your dr, be persistent...good luck!
