Despite low vision (some vision loss), you can work, travel, play, cook, raise a family, buy groceries, read books and maintain your independence.

WHAT IS LOW VISION?

When ordinary eye glasses, contact leses or intraocular implants cannot provide sharp sight, an individual is said to have low vision. This condition should not be confused with blindness. People with low vision still have useful vision which can often be improved with magnification devices or low vision prescription glasses.

Some magnification products for daily living are as follows: personal reading machines (closed circuit TVs), magnifiers (hand held and stand models), monocular telescopes (head borne and hand held), microscopic and prismatic half eye spectacles, floor and desktop lamps, sewing and craft aids, games and books, kitchen aids, large print books, calendars, watches, clocks and calculators.

Hi Debbi: I'm so sorry I didn't put this in the other groupings. I was tired and I had the occipital neural blocks on Monday and they were still hurting so I wasn't all there.

But if even a few of us learn about low vision, we begin to understand what others face who have this ailment. Also I hope it educates many of us as to why funds to low vision programs should never be cut because it cuts the independence of so many.
