hi everyone,

a good friends' mother is disabled but isn't 'officially' declared as totally permanently disabled.

can she get social security disability or ssi?

She should apply for both. It doesn't cost anything and if she gets denied for one she can still be accepted for the other. Good lluck

Hi Roy. A very important part is that all of the claimant's doctors must be fully supportive that the claimant is fully disabled and unable to work. If they are not, then the chances greatly go down that SSA would approve them for SSD. Also, the doctors must provide records and typically fill out a Residual Functional Capacity (RFC) form for SSA and that RFC pretty well provides the doctors' professional opinions and it either agrees with the claimant or shoots down the claimant.
