Let's get into a subject that many times isn't discussed and that's domestic violence. If you are on HUD Section 8 and are the victim of domestic violence you may have fear that you could lose your HUD Section 8. WRONG

"The Violence Against Women Act" (VAWA) of 2005 is an amended version of the 1994 VAWA and offers new protections. Some of the new protections involve housing agencies (like HUD Section 8) from acting against you the victim. The brochure "VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN IN FEDERALLY FUNDED RENTAL ASSISTED HOUSING" (this is a brochure that the city housing agency was sending out to everyone) states:

1. Denial of Assistance: The law provides that you cannot be denied assistance because you are a victim of domestic violence, dating violence, or stalking if you are otherwise qualified to receive such assistance.

2. Termination of Tenancy or Assistance: The law further protects those who are currently receiving federal housing assistance from losing assistance or housing solely on the basis of their status as a victim of domestic violence, dating violence or stalking.

So if you are on HUD Section 8 and you are suffering domestic violence, you do not have to remain silent and instead can prosecute and not lose your HUD Section 8 assistance.

Hi Debbi: I get a lot of information that passes my way, either through groups I attend, through e-mail newsletters, through catalogs or flyers, so I try to pass it along. I call myself a "cesspool of information" and laugh.

At the local support group the other day, someone asked me because they said I would know. They said they wrap pills for their dog in cheese but all that stuff is bad for their dog and the many diseases he is being treated for so is there anything else I know of. So I told them about Foster's & Smith has Pill Pockets to put pills in to feed to dogs--I don't even have dogs, I have cats. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm? pcatid=13310
