Below is an article from 2007 about some robotic breakthroughs for the disabled. For instance, they are working on a robotic wheelchair that would open doors for the user. This is incredible and with me being in a scooter I have heard from many in scooters/powerchairs/wheelchairs how opening doors is a real problem they face. Some don't have the arm strength to open doors that may be heavier and sometimes doors are heavier and on those closing springs at the top (which don't stay open so you can get through) so the door doesn't blow open with the wind. I know I see a doctor at a huge medical building and the glass doors at the front are very heavy and hard to open.
