i was diagnosed with penile cancer january 2012,i have had an op which involved removing the glans and skin grafting,im glad im 59 because looking at it now its totaly changed the appearence of my penis.i hid this problem for 2 years because my doctor sent me to a gu clinic and i was embaressed by going there a doctor diagnosed genitle warts. things got much worse so in the end i had to return to the gu clinic with my wife and i saw a different doctor saw me and was instantly concerened and i was refered to a urologist,i had an urgent biopsy which resulted in being diagnosed with malignent melanoma superficial stage 2. a referal then to good hope hospital birmingham uk where i had the op on the 15 feb and am now at home recuperating.i dont know what my penis will look like when finished healing but ive been told even before lab results that all the cancer as been removed and no futher treatment will be nescesary.

I can understand why you would question them getting it all...once having gotten such a rare agressive cancer one always waits for a second blow. keep positive poque... attitude works wonders... n life is precious. grab ahold of it and be happy n live!! you are very fortunate to be given that "green" light of being good.
Courage does not mean that we do not know fear;
Rather that we carry on in spite of being afraid.
Courage does not always roar, or never shed a tear;
It lets us face life without allowing hope to fade.

im back in hospital on the 6th of june to have the same op as last time as they need to get a 3cm margin to reduce the chances of it coming back so they are taking 2cm of foreskin and a further 1cm of my penis.not happy being told this after being told after the first op that it was all gone and no further treatment was required but it as to be done or it will come back.

Hi mischa

i had a total penectomy and perineal urethrostomy too. I know it can be hard and the new urether can be a tough fact both physically and mentally. don't forget even if you look different you still are the same person.

YES! YES! YES! you've got rid of the cancer, what more do you want? A pretty penis? Lets NOT forget that CANCER will kill you. An ugly penis won't, eh? I'm just starting this horrible business so trying to stay positive until someone chops my penis off, anyway. I've seen this "malignent Melanoma" mentioned a few times and don't know what it means. A cancer thing, is it? I know now what a Penectomy is, worse luck. Huw.

malignant melanoma is a skin cancer and is caught by the sun.you can get this cancer come anywhere on your body after being burned,to get it on your penis is very very rare a million to one chance cancer of the penis is usualy one of two common penile cancers not melanoma.my two tumours where removed with the glans but the melanoma experts say a 3 cm margin is required to give a very good chance of it not returning.so its back in hospital on the 6th of june to have it all done again including a new neo glans,as long as it stops the cancer returning i will be happy with my stub.
