Hey Priyeni,

While cleaning out a drawer I found some cards and envelopes from my Pen Pal friend from Sri Lanka, Duleep Fernando. Unfortunately there were no return addresses on the envelopes. I did , however take some photos of the postage, thought it was quite interesting.

Sometimes as writers we worry too much about creating a masterpiece when we should just be thankful the words flow at all.

Jane, I cant understand how there was no address, it's a requirement that we note the sender's add. Pls look behind - back of envelope. Fernando is a very common surname here, I wld love to trace yr pen-pal but dont know where to start.

Stamps are intersting. It looks to me like the postage added up to Rs 1.50. Now it costs Rs 20 to send a card only. The man with the pipe was the Prime Minister who was assassinated by a Buddhist monk. His wife later became the world's 1st woman premier & his daughter was our President , not so long ago.

The 2 bare-breasted women are the famous Sigiriya frescoes. many fascinating stories - the most accepted is, that they were the concubines of the king who built the rock fortress. there's another trend of thought that it was built as a Buddhist monastery & the paintings are the dreams /fantasies of the celibate monks.

Pls check out that envelope well Smile

Oh! Priyeni I wish I did have his address but I have checked the envelopes well. They are not in very good shape with pieces missing. It could be I tore the address off to keep it but I just don't know. I'm sure I'll come across it soon. I remember once , for my Birthday, he sent me some beautiful purple amethyst jewelry. Later on in my life the jewelry was stolen. The last I heard from Duleep was in 1978 or 1979. I would love to know what happened to him.

Smile They are pretty much human no. Monks have their last meal before 12 noon. reason is to curb such desires. it seems, when one is on an empty stomach & kinda weak with hunger pangs, any other kinda 'pang' can be controlled Smile They also have special meditation techniques to help them over physical desire. they have to destroy the thought, cant be easy no, wen u think about it.
