At T'giving dinner my left arm became - not numb - useless. I couldn't lift it or eat with it - it just was useless. The waitress, thinking I was a mom that could handle hot platters, kept trying to them to me. Finally, I just said very loudly "I can't" and that alerted the whole family.

Anyone have that particular symptom. I'm getting ready to go to Johns Hopkins under the dx Movement Disorder and that includes Parkinson's I found out.

Thanks,

H.

Thank You very much for asking this question! I had a very similar experience. This past June, while on a trip back home for the family reunion,we stopped for lunch. It had been a very long and stressful ride and we were all hungry and irritable. After taking just a few bites of food, I suddenly lost the use of my arm and could not, no matter how hard I tried, get it to move. I keep telling my arm over and over again to move, but it stubbornly refused. The tears welled up in my eyes and I told my kids, "I can't make my arm move"! They just kind of looked at me and sighed, and then ignored me. I could not finish my meal. The use of my arm did return and since then it has happen one more time. I thought I was going crazy and did not mention it to my neurologist. I will now.

Thanks Harobed!

Sometimes as writers we worry too much about creating a masterpiece when we should just be thankful the words flow at all.

I'd had it happen several times which is why I didn't scream or cry at the dinner table. I might've if it had been the first time.

Also, my family was in such a panic that it kept me under control...

I'm just glad to know I'm not the only one and that I am not crazy!

Hi H. and Jane, I've had that problem a couple of times. As you say, it isn't numb just won't respond. I always just figured it was part of the PD with not being able to initiate movement. When you have your appointment at johns hopkins let us know what they say.
