 My mother has had a button medical alert system - but we find now that she does not have the control to hit the button. Any suggestions as to a way she can 'call for help' without it being so difficult.

 can she tug on things? would she able to pull the control mechanism loose so that the disruption in the circut set off the alarm? (This would be similar to us pulling a pen that is worn around the neck, out of its cap.) Ask the company that services your mother's call system to investigate her options.
