KidsNoPdrugs,

I am new here. It is obvious during the reading of the last few posts that you are militantly against psychotropic drugs and even maybe the idea of mental illness as a dx. That is fine.

Might I suggest that you be a bit less militant and a bit more *respectful* of other parents. We are all struggling and putting people on the defensive never works.

Also, do you have an alternative suggestion? What do I do when my 9 year old seriously threatens harm to my 2 year old? or to herself (i.e. with a knife in hand?) What do I do when my daughter sobs for DAYS on end? What do I do when she tells me she wants to crawl out of her skin? When she has no friends b/c she can't keep herself from stealing from them?

No one here WANTS to put their kid on drugs. NO ONE. Psychotropic drugs are scary. Expensive. Another seat on this crappy roller coaster of BP. But more than our fear of meds, we want our kids happy. We want them to be safe. We want them to be kind.

What is your alternative?

Ooookaaaaay, that doesn't really make sense. I wouldn't take a chemotherapy drug for my daughter if I didn't have cancer. I am deathly allergic to wasps and my son has been stung 5x in his life. No one understands genetics well enough to be able to predict if a side effect or allergy will manifest itself between one generation to another or even from sibling to sibling.

I get your frustration with people who seem to hunt and hunt for the right meds, but again - what do you suggest? you can't just give up on helping your kid.

Again, to what gain? My mother can't take Demerol b/c it completely bottoms out her blood pressure. My sister has absolutely no problem with it. My husband gets absolutely crazy loopy on opiates but my son could take boatloads on oxycodone and be fine.

What if I took some Abilify and it gave me a horrible rash, but it would have been a life-saver for my daughter?

I am so sorry you had a horrible reaction with some psych drugs. That is awful (I am horribly allergic to most antibiotics, so I hate it when I have to try and take anything). Thank you for sharing your fears, but please remember that what didn't help you, might help someone else. Pharma companies wouldn't make any money if the drugs didn't help.

Bethy's mom I so agree with everything youwrote on here but I got to tell you I can't see what the "negative" people are saying in response to you. You handled yourself very well from what I read of your posts and not being able to see theirs. But it does give me a little giggle when I try to read what is said and I can't see anything , it makes it seem as if you are having a convorsation with yourself, I know you aren't talkng to yourself. Makes me think of some days I have when the stress gets to me, I end sitting here talking to myself Wink You handled them probably better then I would have. Becky

I'm so sorry about all the trolling. I have asked "the powers that be" to block the IP but I haven't gotten a response yet. All I can do is to keep banning them.

I suggest we do NOT engage in any way with this person. Just carry on as if the annoying posts do not exist.
