It's hard having a bipolar son. My bipolar son is 27. He's not on any medication right now. A few years ago he got on medication briefly because of getting into trouble with the law. He didn't stay on it long though. He has two younger brothers. To make a long story short, he disrupted our family so much that our home is unstable and my youngest son is now on medication himself and has felt suicidal in the past. My other son is having anxiety problems. An unmedicated bipolar child is risky. I fe...

My son finally made it through his first college year. He did really well, considering what this disease has done. I thought we'd be able to help him more when he came home, but he's been in his room for days. I took him to a psychiatrist who kept him on his original meds (Lamictyl and seroquel). He didn't change any doses, just added wellbutrin. I feel like I'm in a tunnel, there's nothing I can do. Just wait till he's better??? I make sure he's at least drinking so he doesn't get dehydrated. I...

Thank you so much for your reply. He is so angry and sure doesn't use good sense. In fact this evening he got so angry and foul mouthed on the phone one of the staff took the phone from him. What is so sad is that he is such an incredible young man. It is just so frustrating and sad. I'm sure more for him then anyone....

That is exactly how I got my daughter Dxed. No Dr believed me. I followed her around with a camera (episode lasted for what seemed like days) and brought it to her new Dr. That was key in getting her help. I wish you much luck in trying to help your step daughter. It's a fight we just have to keep going for us and them....

Thanks everyone! Sorry for my delay in response, but I know you know why...My younger daughter is still in RTC but will be released within the next couple of weeks, and I am scared to death. The insurance company is pressing for IOP, but what I am concerned about is how I am going to be able to watch this child 24/7 to make sure she does not run and end up victimized again. She seems more stable - is on a new combo of meds that she seems to be responding to, but I remain fearful. How do single m...

This could be a wonderful chance to STAY off those medications and avoid long term health risks !

His book At Day's Close: Night in Times Past, published four years later, unearths more than 500 references to a segmented sleep...

Don't mistake medication withdrawal reactions for the mental illness itself, that is very common and often stands in the way of recovery from mental illness.

People who have recovered from mental illness know that problems that arise upon quitting medications are usualy medication withdrawal effects, and can be minimized by tapering down slowly. If you have been relying on medications to solve emotional problems, you may need to learn effective alternative solutions to these problems in order...
