MDJunction to me

Dit"I've been a grateful member here for over 4 yrs this place has changed my life of course for the better, coming to the groups has enabled me to no longer feel so alone. As a group leader for the Bipolar Support group I can relate to others and am expressing my experience strength and hope and this is very rewarding, I've also made many supportive friends here whom I talk to some daily. I used to have a lot of 'lows' since becoming member here at MdJunction I no longer have these lows." (Dit)

I have a question i am a 23 yrs old mother that has surgery for her scoliosis done about 8 yrs ago. And i wondering because i had it and her father has a mental disability, he has CP could it mean that our daughter could get either scoliosis or Cp?? Not os much worried about the CP as I am the scoliosis?

There is heredity in about 20% of cases of scoliosis but I don't know what the chances are that you will pass down whatever gene it may be if you even have the gene since the other 80% have no known cause yet. My sister had surgery for her scoliosis about 8 years ago as well. Probably make sure you point out your concern at your child's checkups so they can always look at the spine? I wish I could help more but that is what I have been doing for my son and so far no problems. I think I may have a mild scoliosis that never went treated so I always watch his development.

And cerebral palsy is not genetic. It occurs during development or after birth.
